This thread does not deserve to die.

So anyway, tea. What do you think classifies as tea? For example, do you think randomly stuffing parts of a plant into boiling liquid counts as tea?

Tea is tea. Like from the tea plant.

Anything else is a tisane. But people mostly call it tea. It's not, dammit!

But I'm not gonna get all semantics-nazi because of it :P

Tea is made from tea leaves
but boiling plant bits can be tea too
I really don't care about its classification
so ya I call the other stuff tea too

I'm...not sure if that was intended to be a poem, or just a broken up sentence.

The second line is a little too long, and it breaks up the flow. Otherwise, it's excellent.

Here in georgia (and the southern US in general) the only tea most people know is a really commercialized black tea thats brewed hot with lots of sugar, then served on ice. I know a lot of you who are more involved with tea probably think that sounds terrible, but it's not at all bad.

(note that it's not the same as iced tea: there's a difference when you brew it with sugar and when you add sugar after you ice it)

Personally as far as hot tea goes I prefer a lot of strong black teas, mainly irish breakfast tea (or Souchong tea, that shit'll put some hair on your chest) with milk, and a weaker darjeeling straight for social occasions.

I made some loose leaf green tea last night but I couldn't find the strainer so I just put it in the cup and hot water on it. No sweeteners, and just drank around the leaves.

Once that was down to almost empty I heated some more water, removed most of the leaves (it had been steeping in the water while I drank for like an hour), added a teaspoon of honey and sugar in the raw then refilled the hot water.
Sweet green tea for dessert anyone?  :D

No what are you doing. Boil the water first then add the tea. Decoctions of anything are nasty as hell.
But, but, but chai!

Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

Enlighten me, what kind of tea exactly do you mean by chai out there? Because chai is literally just tea in Russian, you know, so I'm confused.

Here ya go. It's one of the best teas there is, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Aye. Doing it properly makes for something far better than what you get by an infusion, such as by a tea bag. There's this brand that sells pillow-style bags that don't have strings or staples, so they're microwaveable. Chai is the best use for such things, because you can actually boil the stuff. But it's even better prepared from scratch.

Same here. From where I come from, I've heard of people just ageing the stuff and then selling it for profit, like wine.
