According to a post I read on the starmade forums, it doesn't cost a million bucks to claim a "planet/system", and you'd want to do it anyway for the mining bonus. Of course I haven't actually verified that myself in-game (and currently can't until I install a new hard drive, reinstall windows, etc).

Making a station costs. Making faction costs 0 credits.
Claiming planets and systems costs 0 credit.
I truly hope the founder does claim us a planet to put up secure base and system for mining bonus.
I wasnt able to use the warpgate at -1,-1,-1 so it will take few days to reach the coordinates you posted earlier
They got very large systems i noticed.

What speed did you go through it with?

Making a station costs.

A build block (or a ship core for our main base) and a faction block.  Just build from there.

I truly hope the founder does claim us a planet to put up secure base and system for mining bonus.

I will eventually.  System I detailed is just a temporary one to construct the capital ship.  Actual system we will be based out of is somewhere else.

Yes.

I didn't realize that Schema had enabled the use of ships as home bases...

It'd be the home base in all but name, if that isn't enabled.

Neither did i.
Thought only stations and planets can server as base and spawn points.

That is why I said, 'In all but name'.  (Makes more sense now that the typo is gone.)   Though it got me thinking, if we made one extremely small, could it be dragged around by a ship?

Aren't stations static? Probably wouldn't be a great plan.

That's why I was questioning if it was possible.

Also, found a really interesting place.  Two stations and a shop in adjacent sectors to a planet.  All default, though.  Going to fly through a few black holes to find one with variety.

Koss is right, barring an exploit*, stations cannot move.

* I have to say this because we stole pirate stations in Hazeron and relocated them, because hazeron had ALL OF THE BUGS, including functioning warp drive for stations...

I've used a ship as a mobile homebase with few issues.

Fly up to an existing planet/station, drop a faction block on it and claim/set homebase.

Make a docking array large enough to dock your mobile HB. Objects docked on your HB share its invulnerability (I'm not sure how the rules are on FP but the idea should be the same).

Of course, you'll need to plant your spawnblock on the station/planet, but you could just make a quick structure to link it near your HB. I had a small tube where I could just open it up and use a gravity block to drop into my ship.

If you need factories, that'll have to be on the station/planet too. I generally hollowed out the station/planet and built it inside there.

I played solo/small factions so there was no worry about someone undocking the ship or breaking the docking array so YMMV.

I've never built on the 3d planets, largely because after they were added the game became largely unplayable as soon it decided I was close enough to generate one.

I can get the planets to work, but there are odd bugs that occur.

I wound up crashing directly into one once, so as long as your computer is better than a 1.8 ghz dual core, 4 gb RAM, 512 mb VRAM, you should be fine.

I did that too, if by crashing into you mean falling onto the core prior to the surface spawning above. I'll assume it's improved then since mine is similar (an (old now) i5-750 quad-core CPU and twice the vram, but the same amount of system ram)

Back then if I got near a planet, my CPU usage and memory usage  skyrocketed and starmade ground to a halt. It ate all the rams and took several minutes, during which it ran worse than hazeron, to generate the surface of a single planet, to my dismay.

I think bases are protected and can't be destroyed or accessed by other factions/players.
Only problem would be if they camp near base to shoot leaving ships.
Using mobile ship as HQ would make it vulnerable anywhere even everyones offline.
Factioned blocks do not have that issue. Basicly it is ship VS ship battle this stage of alpha :)
