Why is my 3 month old dwarven baby severely cave adapted?
« on: December 14, 2014, 10:24:21 pm »

From the wiki article, cave adaptation is suppose to take a long time, up to two years. However, my 3 month old dwarf baby is already severely cave adapted and vomiting a ton. I also have an outdoor meeting area which I'm fairly sure he and his mother spend a lot of time in.

How is it possible that the baby (but not his mother) is severely cave adapted, despite spending lots of time outdoors?

I think cave adaption for babies has been introduced somewhere in the .40 cycle; presumably because the child spent nine months in a dark cave...

Indeed I have noticed, in my 40.19 fortress, a 7 mo-1yro baby of mine also seems to "felt aversion at being out in the sunshine again".
I was wondering where all the random vomit was coming from...  :P I figured it was dwarfs seeing hated vermins though.

I hope cave adaptation can be turned down a bit.
They are dorfs, they can stay sane without sleeping for 6 months, they only eat/drink once per month, but...

That's because of the time he spent in a cave before he was born.

Sorry

Looking at the rest of the image, those are some sophisticated opinions for a baby.

From what I've seen, I think that babies born underground are instantly fully cave adapted, resulting in vomit everywhere the next time the mother goes on a hauling job. I invested in olivine floors after a baby boom so no one would notice.

Nope, its happened in fortresses that are strictly above ground.  Cave adaptation is present on newborns.

Ummm, 5 days old and cave adaptation?  Kind of . . . interesting statement on wombs :P
