I got "a barony"

Yep, literally. The noble title is called "a barony" rather than the logically correct "baron". So I also got to pick a champion. The wiki says I should pick my best teacher instead of my best soldier, but my best soldier is also my best teacher.

What dwarf should I pick instead?

Pick him anyway. The reason you pick the best teacher is so he can better teach the other dwarves he trains with.

Does he need to be in a squad?  Or does he go around to all the traing yards and give demonstrations?
