Icy and Sheb are quickly sent to the medbay, so Quartz and Mari hop on the Skyranger and head to Canada.
The skyranger sets down in a small parking lot near a mall, and the team prepares to head in and kill some aliens.
Akami spots a group of sectoids standing in front of the store, and they scatter. Two run inside, and the third hides behind a truck.
Akami tries to shoot it, but realizes too late his bullets don't go through objects.
The alien gets powered up by another one inside, and decides to run across the street to get a better vantage point. The squad reacts quickly, but the alien's enhanced reflexes (And Darkling's terrible aim) allow it to get across unharmed.
The alien shoots the car that Akami and Mari are hiding behind, and the third sectoid runs out to the truck and takes aim, waiting for the two to try and run from the exploding car.
Darkling shoots at the overwatching alien, forcing it back into cover. This lets Quartz get into position, and he takes it out with his shotgun.
Akami runs to the doorway, and decides that opening doors is for fools. He then destroys both doors, and parts of the wall, in a hail of bullets.
Mari runs the other way and as she kills one sectoid, but the other uses the car's explosion to escape into the back of the building.
A helicopter flies over and shines a searchlight on a pair of aliens behind the store and they scatter. The XCOM team prepares for them to attack...
...and so when the alien from before comes out of a back room, the team is ready. Two of them miss, but it still goes down.
Quartz runs up to get a close look at the room it was hiding in, and spotted another pair hiding in it! The two of them run out an emergency exit back to the parking lot.
Quartz fires out the doorway at one of them but misses, and Mari decides to destroy a table and chairs.
The aliens must share her hatred of tables, as one runs up to watch another destroy the second set.
Darkling misses yet another shot, and so Akami fires his rocket and kills both of the Sectoids by the doorway.
Akami also spots another group of sectoids through the nice new hole in the wall.
Mari tried to imitate Akami's rocket shot, but missed the mark and ends up only killing one. Quartz cannot quite reach the alien, and so takes cover and reloads his shotgun.
The alien Mari missed decides to link with another alien, which proves to be a bad idea when Quartz runs up and kills it from point black range.
While the alien was linking, another one tried to sneak up behind the squad. It ended about as well as the other one.
The last alien runs through the doorway and ends up in the same spot as the last one. Ended exactly the same way too, a hail of bullets from Akami's gun. Of course, Darkling did take and miss another shot. What do I even pay you for Darkling?
All in all, a complete success.
We welcome the new recruit in, and I pick some upgrades for him.
And because Akami got promoted again, we can now make an officer training school! And I finally finished that last day of weapon fragments, allowing me to purchase two scopes.
