I have embarked near a Dark Fortress, with the hopes of getting some quick ambushes and sieges early on.

It's the 2. year, and I haven't seen one baby snatcher or thief, let alone ambushers. I know sieges can take a few years but I'm not even getting thieves.

I'm within their range and I double-checked it before embarking. I exported enough stuff, created enough wealth, have a good population, but I'm yet to see one goblin.

The civilizations list doesn't have them too.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing, DF2014 is the problem.

You will probably get sieges but it tends to happen later.

The gobbos are operating at world-speed. If you studied Legends, you may note that sieges usually come every 10 to 15 years in wars.

That's probably how much you have to wait until you get your first real siege.

TEN years of waiting before the first siege ? This needs to be fixed.

Not every war is the Hundred Years War, after all.

But I'm not getting thieves and baby snatchers too. I'd be happy even with the occasional ambushers.

I guess I'll just attack the Elves and hope they'll be quicker.

Haz any one had ambushes?  Sieges seem to show up eventually, but i haven't heard of any one getting ambushes.

Zombies seem to show up for early game sieges a lot more frequently, so if you want early game action maybe embark within range of a tower?

Me neither, unless you mean elves or werebeasts. Goblins always knock before enter, they have better manner than the elves.
