Gurren Lagann Gaiden [IC]: Anti-Spirals
« on: December 11, 2014, 08:42:46 pm »

The underground village Jeeha thrives as the massive hole in the stone roof sheds moonlight into its structure. The darkness of the cave is pierced only by spiral lights glowing with green energy as they emit a healthy illumination throughout the village during the night, setting a calm mood. Some even wonder why humans live in such a small and secluded village, but little know that it is a hearth - the starting point of a grand adventure long lost, the adventure that led to the freedom of the human race and the defeat of the Anti-spiral.
The broken bridges have been replaced with wood, from when the Beastman Gunman fell and destroyed them. The entire adventures of team Dai-Gurren have spread over the galaxy, becoming a fanciful yet true fairy tale for the children of those who now inhabit Earth and the other spiral planets.
Out in the night, however, some people are still about. Whether in the mines or in the village bar, somebody is always fighting something, stone or drink, or for something, space or soberness. That's just the nature of this universe.

This spiral universe.

Buki was digging. He liked to do it after school, it gave him a sense of purpose. Sure, the lessons were useful, but he knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to be a Gunmen pilot, like his heroes. Maybe he'd even join the Spiral Fleet and head into space, like Viral! How romantic, to visit the stars himself... He shook himself out of his daydreams as his drill hit a rock, and he adjusted his course. He was using an older model drill, one that wasn't powered by Spiral Energy, as he felt the workout was worth the effort. It was tough digging like this, deeper into the ground, making sure he didn't stray too far from the light of the town. It was funny how he'd come here, BECAUSE of Simon, he'd decided to visit the old town, and see what it was like. To his surprise, he found he'd liked the simple ways here, living off his own power, rather than in the big city with his parents. He'd probably keep drilling for a little while, until he found something, he heard something more interesting outside, or until he got tired enough to head back.

Makan wandered his way towards the bar in the village,  it being one of the many stops in his constant traveling. Not one he frequented often, by any stretch of imagination, but a travel stop nonetheless. These old villages were always being so peaceful. A bit too peaceful, he'd say, if asked. Not that anyone was asking. But still, the thought was there. And it was there to stay.

Galen is already at the bar drinking heavily and deeply. Really, he hoped for a reason to fight someone. Just to get it out of his system. There's little in the world that can match the feeling of best another in one on one combat. And Galen is quite skilled at that. There's a reason he was called Galen the giant dickhead back home. ... Wait, wrong title. He was Galen the Strong. Not that he was that strong compared to his brother, Samson the Titanic. They even wrote a song about his strength.

"Come on then, you bloody cowards! You gonna let a girl send you running home to daddy?"

Jesse grinned as one of her opponents charged her, trying to get under her long arms and take her down.

Instead, she gripped him around the waist, flipped him over and slammed him down in the mud. The momentary opportunity as she hit the ground too was taken by the other fighters, feet squelching as they tried to get close. She took a fist to the face as she got up, or more accurately, to the forehead, and winced as she heard knuckles crack. "That sounded painful! Let me try!"

Her hand sent the guy flying into one of the other combatants, and they both went tumbling. As two smaller kids hung onto her feet, she turned to face the others trying to grab on to her and laughed as one of them fell off her shoulders.

"You all still suck at wrestling! This is how it's done!" the Queen of Combat cried as she grabbed two people by the face and threw them down to the mud.

A few minutes later and they were all laughing, except the one who'd broken a knuckle when he'd accidentally punched her. "Sorry Jess..." "You're the one who broke a hand, Rick. It's me who should apologize....didn't think we'd gotten that rough."

They'd finally managed to bring her down, when six of them had been clinging to her back and shoulders and another few had been working to trip her. She was tall, and while not stupendously bulky, she was definitely strong, and certainly sturdy, and the few people who could -almost- go toe to toe with her weren't among these, who she taught how to fight, partially because they wanted fo go join Team Dai-Gurren one day(the younger ones, at least...) and partially because they needed to know self-defense...world still wasn't perfect.

His drill hit another rock, and he cursed, stopping for a moment to catch his breath. He wasn't getting anywhere with this tonight, so he'd try again tomo... Wait, what was that? He peeked out of his hole, seeing a girl fighting a bunch of children. He watched for a moment before they downed her, and extracted himself from the hole, making his way towards her, the drill stored behind his back in a case.

"Um... Hi. Couldn't notice you seem to be buried in small bodies... Need a hand?" He offered his, smiling a bit. Awful joke, but his intentions were good, at least.

Jen sits against a wall, staring at one of the spiral lights idly. She wondered why she stayed here. What was her purpose? This was what happened when she stayed up way too late... Nothing but questioning this damned village and her own existence. She knew she was alive for something. It just wasn't clear yet. She'd grown up training and training, wishing one day to be talented enough to join Team Dai-Gurran.

Her gaze shifted to her engraved shield. Left behind by her father for whatever reason. She trained with it, though, learning how to accurately use it, as a projectile.
"Why'd you leave? I know you were always planning on trying for my same dream... But... Are you the reason for my own justification that it's okay to go the surface in a hopeless attempt for a hopeless dream...?"

Meanwhile, in the bar...

A quiet, masked, blue-haired youth is calmly watching the people in the bar, resting their hand upon the hilt of their ancient, ornate blade. He doesn't seem to be entirely concerned with the happenings in the bar. He refused a drink from a smitten girl, quietly thinking to themselves.

The dim moonlight shines on a figure leaning against the corner of a rough stone wall of the village. If one were to pay close attention, they could make out a beastwoman girl with spiral pink eyes. She is really short, at only around five feet tall, and her hair extends downwards to her waist, with her front bangs covering the sides of her face. The most prominent feature of her face, her cat ears, extend outwards and appear to be a white-pink hue.4

"Sometimes a drill breaks amiss the dense stone~
Shattering and breaking from skin to bone~,"
she quietly sings.

Buki looked away from the wrestling girl, hearing something. A song? Huh... maybe it was worth investigating... It took him a few minutes, but he found her, leaning against a wall. He nodded, steeling himself as he walked closer.

"That's a nice song... where did you learn it?"

The girl smiles and looks at him, a sharp tooth visible.
 "My own creation~."

He takes note of the tooth and the ears, a bit curious. Beastmen came through all the time, but usually they were part of the Viral Tour, going through the hero's change of heart, even if he was never in the village. He nodded again, thinking.

"Well I like it. Name's Buki." He extends his hand to her.

She reaches up and takes his hand, shaking it firmly.
"You can call me Lina, human-boy."

"It's nice to meet you Lina. How long will you be in town?"

Hm. Strong grip. She was probably a lot stronger than him, but he got the feeling it wasn't because she was a beastman.

The blue-haired youth leaves the bar, watching the two with interest. It's hard to tell he's watching, though, what with that butterfly mask.

Generally, though, it seems more as if he's attempting to get some (relatively) fresh air out of the tavern.
