If fighting really was the best way to get rid of Spiral Energy safely, which, since it just generates more, doesn't sound like that even makes sense, wouldn't it be easiest to just start a lot of tournaments, rather than get people killed?"

Theoretically the best way to forestall the Spiral Nemesis would be to wipe out all other Spiral life forms, seal away our populace so they can't generate any Spiral energy, and keep watch to make sure no one uses Spiral pow-wait a minute that's what the Anti-Spirals did.

"That's not an option. Neither is some sort of genocidal war. You said war makes monsters out of everyone, and that you've fought in one, right? Maybe that's why you're a monster now."

Of course I am! A monster on humanity's side, but a monster.

"On humanity's side? But how can you be, if you're a monster, not human? You certainly don't look all that human to me. No human I know can phase through walls. Problem with being racist when you aren't even part of the race you think is best is being a bloody hypocrite. And a terrible human being on the ethical level, too. What's the point of having people around if they're all terrible?"

I'm every bit as human as you are! Sure, I may not have a body but my spirit isn't too dissimilar to yours - we both have a fighting spirit, people we've hated, people we've loved, and we both have Spiral power. If I didn't then I wouldn't truly be human, only a pale imitation.
I don't think too much about why I fight for humanity, though. If I considered that, I'd question the things I've done, the things I've yet to do, and wonder if they were all worth it. I can't let myself think like that - I've come too far to doubt my path.

It creates. It makes drills to puncture with, it creates the bullets you fire, it created the power that runs this whole society. No one uses it to destroy things, only to create things to destroy with.
Still, no reason we can't try.
