Artifact nickel battle axe?
« on: December 11, 2014, 12:15:25 pm »

My doorf decided that even with all the thousands of steel bars available and all around him, to make his weapon artifact out of nickle instead.   I was hoping nickle was part of the various comparisons on the wiki so I could get an idea on what it is on par with being an artifact and all.  Of course nickle isn't mentioned and I don't understand all the material stats very well to figure it out on my own.  I do know that due to being an artifact it does get a 3x bonus on to hit modifiers and what not, but can someone savvy with the numbers let me know if its say, as good as a normal masterwork steel axe, or equal to maybe a non-masterwork steel, or iron, etc?

Thanks!

I haven't done any !!SCIENCE!! in this area, but from material properties, I would guess that weapons made from nickel should perform similarly to weapons of the same quality made from iron. So your artifact should be the same as an artifact iron battle axe, +/- a little bit.

Which still isn't as good as a masterwork steel axe.  Am I correct in that?  Masterwork is a x2 bonus and Artifact is only x3.  Doesnt seem to me like even with the slightly higher bonus that it would come close.  Also I assume that it also would have a harder time against armors like iron then the steel would.

Damn dwarf. Why couldn't he have picked up a steel ingot. :(

Basically, yeah. It'll hit a lot, but the hits won't do as much as you'd like.

Well in real life nickel is as hard as iron am I correct?
But taking a look at the raws, nickel is not impressive at all, much more worse than copper.

The wiki needs to have some !SCIENCE! done with all the other metals not listed specifically for this purpose.  Platinum was listed since it is technically more dense then silver and therefore would make an even better war hammer, but a lot of the alloys/metals were left out.  It would be nice to know where they sort of fall in, unless it really is the case where ALL of them are worse then basic copper for edge, piercing and blunt...

When I looked up the denisity of nickle it was pretty near iron so I thought for sure it would be maybe equal to or a little less, but didn't know how to factor in all the other stats since its an edge weapon and all..

A similar topic.
In said similar topic there's the guy with all the metals listed in his signature and nickel is right below silver. So, the artifact bonus won't be saving it. I decided to look at the stats myself just to see if it made sense, and yeah nickel is worse for edged weapons than silver.

Its a feature. Impregnating booze is a planned tech tree for dwarves and this is a sneak peek at it.

FYI, platinum battle axes are better than that sig would suggest, because the additional weight makes it a bone-breaking machine. It's less lethal, but you break bones on every hit, and since it's an artifact, you hit a lot.
