Jonathan mumbles a number of curses under his breath, gripping his sidearm for several seconds even after the thing exploded into a fine mist. As the adrenaline slowly leaves his system, he manages speak.
"There's a...thing...In the water. Similar to a manta ray, I think. Got a water sample, though. Now for one from the river."
Head for the river, and take a sample from it.
"Oh, and, I can't say I like how close those cow-like creatures are getting to the base. Maybe when we head back, we should try and chase them off?"
You head to the river, but slow down when you see no one is coming with you. You really don't want to wander alone here. While you trust your enviro-suit will keep your safe, there's still unpleasant possibility of getting maimed by some horrible alien creature.
Put the samples back into the bags, and return to the airlock. Make sure I am pure and clean, and do scans on the samples for dangerous chemicals, then for unknown bacteria.
Samples packed. The airlock is not really that much of airlock as it is a disinfection/sterilization chamber. The machinery on the wall seals your sample bags into small protective containers. Once done with sterilization procedure you head to the labs, which are separated from rest of the ship with similar airlock system.
You enter, get cleaned up again, and start working with your samples. You don't find any immediately dangerous chemicals in samples, but then again Geology teams are better equipped for that job. Maybe you should send the sample to them or ask analysis from some team in similar enviroment.
Next you focus on the bacterias, your favourite subject! You pick a blade of grass with tweezers and place it under scanner. After looking around for a while you compile the data and sure enough, there are unknown bacterias! All of them, actually.
Damn it guys.
Reload my net launcher
You reload your net launcher and hope those two didn't kill your target. Two ammo left plus one in the launcher.
Wake up. Aw shit I slept in! Get into my pressure suit and click my mic to all channels. Didn't anybody notice that someone was still asleep after we hit the planet?! Rrrrrr, screw all you guys!! O:<
Aggressively click the mic off of 'SEND' and grump over to where we keep the personal flyers. Requisition one, also a sidearm, our equivalent of binoculars, and something to get tissue samples and catch small live creatures (bugs!) in. Once I have all my stuff head out and take off in the flyer. Circle once around the base, get a feel for the land.
You don your enviro-suit and drop by in armory before heading to the hangar. All one-person flyers are ready to launch so you pick one and sit in. You have done this many times in training simulations, but never before with a real thing. You calm yourself and prepare for take-off. Touch this, swipe there, focus like that and the flyer activates. Techicians on the hangar direct you into launcher and few moments later you are out.
You rise up to 40 m and circle around the base. Looking the ground below through transparent walls of cockpit you spot your team mates in south, large herd of creatures pretty close to the base and pack of four other creatures approaching slowly. Soft wind is blowing to east but aforementioned herd doesn't seem to react them.
"Someone try to recover any bodies that haven't been EXPLODED."
"well I would rather not risk any puntures till we know if there are any deadly virus's around"
Mark checks the bodys confirming they are dead with a single headshot each to the intact ones then dragging them out of the pile to be brought back to the base"
"Oh, and, I can't say I like how close those cow-like creatures are getting to the base. Maybe when we head back, we should try and chase them off?"
"yeah I agree, lets just get the last of the samples before trekking back"
While many birds are filled with holes and are very much dead, you find two who are still alive. One grey bird has its wing almost clipped off and it's making weak sounds. It ain't moving anywhere so you put it out of misery. Other one is tangled in Cromwell's hardened net and is just sitting there quietly, as if surrendered to obvious fate. You shoot its head off too. None of these dangerous birds shall live while you are around.
You gather all corpses into nice pile ready for packing and transport. Your suit is rather bloody when you finish your task, like a butcher without apron.
"No. There's no threat of security, so I'm still in command."
Move the base away, and attempt to herd the creatures to us.
(How do you want to herd them?)
You tell the base pilots to prepare for lift-off. They want to know reason for it, but begin anyway.
>You have one new message.1: Alex Raman, Theron Drakosen, Cromwell Jackson and Mark Redtail
2: Jonathan Pendle
3: Guni Debres in personal flyer
Talking doesn't require any action. Feel free to speak to each other as much as you want. It doesn't require my interaction unless you want talk to other research units.
Edit: Looks like I have forgotten to mention this detail about the ox-creatures. They have three horns. Wide and flat at base, going straigth out and curving up sharply just before tip, having total length of about 30 cm. Two horns point to sides and third one directly forward.
