((That's a fantastic idea! I didn't know we had cams, you'd think that would've helped earlier when everyone was wondering where I was! >:c))

Send out a general message.

"Dangerous avian or possibly insectoid creature's presence is confirmed. Appears to live in the trees in the forest. Attacked Guni, causing instantaneous paralysis. Approximately five centimeters in length, bright blue, possibly horned. May have caused a burn that afflicted Guni. May cause more symptoms; we'll have to wait until they manifest in Guni before anything can be confirmed. I propose a new policy; nobody enters the forest without being escorted by at least one security team member, excluding themselves. Comms officer, may I request you send a general report about these creatures to nearby bases, as they do represent a significant threat to the operation?"

Comms officer: "Message sent."

<snip>
He then flipped over to the channel to access engineering.
"Engineering team, I have a request that needs filled ASAP. Get me a grenade launcher to fire a concussive grenade, like a flashbang. A large one. Mount it on a rover. Then get me some netguns and load them with the tightest nets we've got. We're catching small prey today. Get it ready on the platform down as soon as you're done."
Techinicians answers: "We have only one type of concussion granades. Would multi launcher work for you?"

Did you eggheads remember to being her something to eat?

(Heh, and now medical personel is something to eat. Beware cannibals. :D  )

((Shall we retcon that Jonathan got something to eat last night?))

You can assume you eat and drink when needed on ship and on outside if you have food with you.

And The Froggy Ninja: I thought up an answer for your note about super animals but forgot to write it down so here we go: Since mankind is planning to colonize this planet and are not planning to bring Earth animals here, they kinda expect you to identify potential livestock animals and plants. Genetic manipulation of those is acceptable if aim is to improve their usefulnes to humans. Military also might be interested effective attack animals, but not openly. So creating a super breed of animals and then releasing it back to wilds will only get you into court room. But probably no one can tell if your creature is native to this planet or not... So go nuts.

Spoiler: SECRETS (click to show/hide)

Go get something to drink at the dispensary. Try not to feel sick. Blurgh.

The drink dispensers can produce many types of drinks, so you order water, cool and refreshing. Not that it makes you feel any better.

((both))
Do some dna decryptions on both the fish and grasshopper. Have the computer check for abnormal similarities.

Dna mapping in process. Dna mapping done. Fish and grasshopper has exactly as much similarities as one would expect from fish and grasshopper, which is exactly none. Except the part that controls formation of skeletons, and even there is just two fragments that decode proteins used in process.

((Shall we retcon that Jonathan got something to eat last night?))

"Guni has been released, for the moment, as she has displayed no additional symptoms once recovering from paralysis. I've yet to see her this morning; going to check up on her as we speak. I wouldn't know if she's eaten or not, of course, as she's no longer been in the med-bay."
Check up on Guni's condition. Upon seeing that she has a fever, take a blood sample and run more tests. Ask if she's suffered any other symptoms. Give her a dose of an acetaminophen.

Another general message.
"Guni has begun suffering from a fever. This may be linked to either bacterial or viral infections, the avian or insectoid creatures (Which we should really come up with a name for), or possibly the wolf-like creatures populating the forest."

((So you don't have to look it up, Tylenol is an example of an acetaminophen. Also, WebMD has turned out to be an invaluable tool for roleplaying this character.))

(So basically its all about hiding symptoms rather than fixing the problem. Ok.)

Yeah, Guni has a minor fever so you take another blood sample and five her some medicine and tell her to go. Results of test is as follows: Her blood contains four bacterias and one virus that are not from Earth. One of the bacterias is the one you are curently making a vaccine for, György has request vaccine for second and third one is marked in database as "harmless" by György. Last bacteria and virus are both unknown. Her immune system is fighting against all but harmless one, but is slightly overtaxed by new encounters so her recovery rate is slower than normal.

We can call the dogs Biggus Dickus and the birds Assholium Rectumas, seriously fuck the forest. Take whatever the doc pushes. After this I should just go to my room and turn the cold on, get some rest.. But we have to solve this, the chief needs to go find that bird. Go to the lab, draw some of my own blood while watching Froggy Ninja do his thing. Maybe I can think of something to do with this, the toxin must be in here somewhere.

You down his placebo pillers and head to the labs. Dave is there, skimming through some DNA and making comparisons. You get some vials and needles from cabinets and draw your blood. At this point Dave gets excited, he probably found something nice.

"If you think it's safe to not need her to be in quarentine, I'll trust your judgement. Do not let her leave the base, for her sake and ours. And tell her to get some damn rest. That's an order."
He wasn't sure if he technically held any authority over them. Normally, he knew he wouldn't, but things changed when people got injured or became potential threats. He seriously hoped she hadn't become one.
Head down to engineering and see if any of those good-for-nothing lazy bastards are actually working on my damn request.

For lazy bastards these guys are working really hard, already welding a frame for launcher into two-man ATV. Launcher is basically nothing more than three barrels held together with metal bands. Techinicians have disassembled triggers and mashed together new one. They tell you that it has some delicate timers to launch granades from all barrels in quick succession.

Trailer is loaded with three netguns and about 20 nets. These nets are really on borderline of being cloth, you could catch even those damn grasshoppers with them.

Ignore everyone and everything, investigate the place where the ship landed.

Ignoring all commotion you get down into surface and start crawling on all fours. It takes some time but finally motion detector in your helmet gives them away. A small green bugs, just barely 3 millimeter long, some of them occasionally turning pink when close to each other. Touching them makes them flash.

Spoiler: Bug (click to show/hide)

In a si-fi game everything is a potential threat

get some breakfast and remember not to have as much to drink next time. Clean up and study Guni's suit camera to try to get a view on why she took off her helmet and hopefully a shot of what knocked her out

Mmm, breakfast... Good thing they finally got around to alter alcohol so it won't cause hangover anymore, otherwise you would feel rather miserable right now. Guni's helmet is in infirmary so you go get it from there and head to labs to extract whatever it recorded. You connect it to computers and swear to gods as you find out it doesn't work at all. Probably that's why she took it off. After looking over its surface you find a small burned spot. Maybe it has something to do with the problem?

((I was more referring to having a pack for our own use.))

Well, design a creature you want and explain cases where you would want to use them. But such completely customized creature will take many turns to create. Also if you are going to speed up its growth then it will be brain dead, and otherwise it will take so long that this game is probably over when it is usable.

All research units on the planet (at least those who are awake) respond to Pendle's alert. Almost everyone acknowledge possible danger, but note that they have not noticed a single case of aggression. At best animals were slightly curious and then just ignored them. Bio teams tell that animals showed curiosity, and in case of one species even friendliness by licking. Eventually all creatures began ignoring them as well, maybe their curiosity was satisfied.

One Bio team announces that they noticed momentary shock across all creatures they were observing approximately 5 hours ago. They want to know if anyone else notice anything similar.

Geo 5 answers György's earlier question about chemicals in soil. They say they are in very similar biome as you and soil is completely safe for walking bare feet. Not that they recommend it.

Spoiler: Map (click to show/hide)

Currently we have following samples on ship:
* Springy grass (Partially studied)
* Soil samples (Studied)
* Seven corpses of large four eyed birds (Studied)
* Aquatic creature. (Studied)
* Two corpses of black wolf-creature. (Studied)
* Grasshopper-type insect. (Studied)
* Possibly contaminated blood samples of black wolf-creatures.
* Additional set of blood and tissue samples from wolf-creatures.

Currently doing following ethically questionable experiments:
* Infrared/four eyed full body human clone with fused ribs. Using Theron's DNA as a base. Basic results visible later today.

Completed and unchecked things:
* Vaccine against two bacterias found on grass.
* Infrared vision eyes. Using Dave's DNA as a base.

((Acetaminophen isn't a placebo. While one of its primary uses is reducing pain, it also reduces the severity and duration of fevers.))

Be briefed when the time to be briefed arrives. After doing so, request Guni try to minimize her contact with other crew members; full quarantine isn't likely yet, but we don't want to have a pandemic on our hands. If possible, try to isolate the bacteria and viruses, and begin work for vaccines on each. Produce a sufficient number of all vaccines to immunize the away team, at the very least.

"Guni is now suffering from a fever. She has been told to minimize contact with others, which will largely mean staying in quarantine, but she may be brought out should something come up with relatively little risk. She is confirmed to be suffering from a few bacterial and one viral infection; a vaccine already exists for one, and one was declared harmless by another member of the away team, though this may prove to be false. Working on producing enough vaccines for the away team now."

((I'm going here with interpretation which claims fever to strengthen body's immune response, therefore medicine that lowers body temperature is not extremely useful. And I call it placebo because it only treats symptoms, not the cause. Sure, it will make Guni feel better, but it won't kill bacterias nor virus.))

Stop by the medical area to pick up that drawing that Guni made of the birds.
Make sure Engineering has the vehicle and weapons ready in the loading platform.
Head to the briefing room, and count how many members of the away team I've got.

Find my drawing and give it to Mastah. Go get a tranq pistol and take a bunch of darts with enough sleepy juice to just make me drowsy. Go to my room and turn up the cold, shoot myself and leave the gun on the nightstand. Sleep the fever off.

Attempt to figure out how this works to make the skeleton steel. Stop growing the madman and check out the effects of my mutations. Also consider the possibility of creating a species designed to grow rapidly at the cost of non-stop consuming of high nutrient food during the growth process.
