Trading oddity
« on: December 08, 2014, 10:10:08 pm »

An elven caravan came and unloading their goods.
So I pressed g over the trade depot. And I found "feather tree egg yolk[5]" already marked as [TRADING].
But I hadn't told them to bring anything to the depot, and I didn't have any feather tree egg yolk at all.

So what happened? Their eggs shattered on my depot?

They probably fell onto the depot.

I had the exact same thing happen to me yesterday. My depot is underground and there are no feather trees on my map.
What's going on here? ???

Hey, same with me! But I found it in the river after somehow an entire caravan fell in, so I ignored it... But there was no way it was from the caravan, because they didn't bring it.

Yeah, they brought feather wood products though.

Hey, I'm on an evil map, and my trade depot has feather eggs too! Is this a bug?

Or this is a feature. :P If it is easter egg instead of feather tree egg.
By the way, my map has an evil biome too.

That you get feather tree egg yolk dumped in your depot _is_ a bug (a.k.a. malfunctioning feature). I think the gist is that as elves bring various tree fruit, they also try to bring the "fruit" of the feather tree, i.e. feather tree eggs. But those aren't properly implemented yet and break on arrival.

feather trees grow in good biomes, btw. And I think you can, in fact, get their eggs from them.

My elves don't live in a good biome and there has never been anything about featherwood anywhere in my fortress though...
I only noticed because the yolks were in my kitchen menu and never were used.

Five "feather tree egg yolk" that have sat there for at least six years, and the fortress is almost 9 now? Never have any more been brought, nothing at all from a good biome but these [5] egg yolks.
