I like steam's screenshots because it's a little simpler than copy-pasting a printscreen into paint and uploading it to an imagehost site, but I can't get the steam overlay to work for Dwarf Fortress (I've added it as a non-steam game in my library).

regardless, the slime shooter will be completed, come hell or high water, which are both entirely plausible setbacks at this point.

To my knowledge it isn't possible, because of the way steam overlay renders, it doesn't work with certain games.

You could use something like Lightshot or Gyazo, though; it's just a little program that sits in the background and overrides the default print-screen functionality; you just press printscreen, or whatever key you have set for it, and you can select the area of the screen you wanted to screencap. It even has built-in uploading functionality too. I'd recommend Lightshot over Gyazo, I've had a few problems with Gyazo crashing for no obvious reason.

Jing is another option, it can upload directly to screencast. You can also capture short videos and it will upload (or save to disk) little self-contained swf (flash) files.

Here's a random example from my library on screencast (all this is free, btw)
