Evelyn's eyes skimmed over the trees in a similar manner to the rest of the group.

GM

A reptilian tail disappears into the canopies above.

"Can't be birds." Elias said, not seeing the reptile. "Can't be any forest animals. They shun this place."

Jariko notices the tail quickly.
"The old man isn't lying; something is above us! Ride, quickly!"
Set off as fast as possible, continuing until I reach a crossroad or the party starts to become far from me.

Jacques didn't think twice. He didn't like the idea of unknown flyers, and didn't want to be eaten by the birdzard. He forced his horse into a fast gallop, thinking about whether was it those beings that killed the victims.

Joe wheeled his horse around with one hand, launching a falcon with the other.

"Go, Sasha! Figure out what in the nine hells that was!"

Alicia kept pace with the old man. As the guide, she couldn't just leave him to die, she supposed.

Evelyn didn't catch the tail, but she did, however, hear Jariko's shout. Beginning to follow the rest of the group as they fled, she looked back to Alicia and Elias, then started to lag behind.

"Bloody 'ell, wait for me!" Elias spurred his mule forward as the group fled.

The group rode a considerable distance, and Sasha returned to Joe, apparently not having found anything.

"Wonderful, now we're off our route." the guide complained, trying to deduce which road they are on.

Spreading the map out again and closing his eyes, Elias spoke. "We'll reach the village by night if we continue on this path, and that is assuming we make good speed. We'll have to backtrack to get back to the original route."

"Better to it, then. No sense waiting, and if there is something in the forest, night will make it harder to fight."

Jariko nods, and sets off once Elias does.

Evelyn nodded in agreement, but seemed a bit iffy about returning to the original path— if there was, indeed, something worth the fear that was present in Jariko's voice; the decision to was not a smart one. Despite that, the woman clad in white readied her horse to set off towards where the group had been prior to their retreat. There was an apparent hesitance in her movements.

The group backtracked. The dried leaves that they trampled on their escape crunched again for the second time. Elias looked about cautiously. After half an hour ride, a ride which took longer than earlier due to their slow pace, they found the crossroads which they had passed earlier in panic.

The forest is still silent. The old man coughed and pointed at an arrow sign which simply says 'VILLAGE'. Sitting up in his saddle, the pace picked up as Elias went faster. "The sooner we can get to safety, the better." the old man said.

Fortunately, there wasn't any complication as the party made their way to Greatgreen. The village was larger and less primitive than one would expect for a community that is isolated inside a forest. Tall stone walls surround it, their construction seemingly recent. It was crude, and the gargoyles placed on it was rather in bad taste.  "Welcome to Greatgreen, home of the great Alchemist, Dale Riversong." Elias said with practiced grace, smiling sardonically. Nobody know whether Riversong is still alive or if he was eaten by a bear. The hermit lived a few hour walk from the village, it was said, but a hut was never found.

An armored elderly man who was sitting on the other side of the gate stirred and looked at the company outside. "We've been expecting you." he said, yawning. "I have no idea how to use this darned thing, so hold yer horses." he said, walking off, apparently to find someone.

"Hurry. Please. I can make it worth your while..." Jacque begged the man behind the gate, blindly believing that danger would attack them any second, before turning around and keeping an eye out for anything giving chase, fruitlessly, as the eyesight of the alchemist was meagre for his age.
