Single Mom Dwarf
« on: December 05, 2014, 07:33:27 am »

Ms. Tobul Saviordoor, Talented Shearer, arrived at my fair fortress of Mirrorcurl a little over a year ago.  With her she brought her young son, Inod Roofstone.

What she didn't bring was her husband...for she does not have one.  When I go to her relationship screen, there is no husband listed, nor is there a father listed for little Inod.

Is this kid the result of divine intervention, or was Mr. Saviordoor an irresponsible cad?  More importantly, is she eligible to marry?

Well maybe the kid didn't have a father because his mother didn't remember.
You know such thing happens. :P

This is why marriage between historical figure and a procedural frowned upon.

But no "I love him, I will marry him, I don't care what you say, mom and dad"

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Try checking legends mode?

I've seen this happen in older versions of the game too.  I'm not sure if it's intentional or a bug though.  If I recall, in older versions at least legends mode says something about the father being lost to time or unknown or something, so I'd guess it's intentional.

Just a way to add a little flavor I guess?

Maybe her husband was abducted by a night hag, imprisoned by her and turned into a creature with long feathers and three eyes; now you know why you fear the night?

And thus he isn't listed in her relations?

Legends mode should tell more about it.

Dwarf parthenogenesis. She must be related to a wereskink (Biologist joke).

One of my dwarfs is the abandoned baby of the Outpost Liaison, who gave birth and left. The emancipated baby does have a mother and father listed, though, so she's not in the same category as your single mum.

Well, Mary was a lass with a very gullible husband, perhaps this single mum will find herself a hubby who likes kids and believes? (Sorry, that one was in poor taste for any Christians, many apologies).

It happened again in a different fort, different world.  Ral Spreadmirror and her little daughter, Shorast Ecrustockade.

Oddly enough, both of them are blacksmiths.

The plot thickens:  I now have a mason that has not one, but two fatherless children.  This is definitely a recurring thing.
