Hmm.  What was that human doing here?  Drak figured such a ceremony would be closed to outsiders... but he didn't know.

Observe the human.  What is it doing?

It's still more equitable to trade, though. Would be good to get some form of tool that I might be able to use. Never know when you'll need tools!

You take a chunk of the mackerel for the clams.  Yum, properly aged.  You then decide to go shopping.. you fly back home, put on your money pouch, and fly back to the market, looking for tools..

Tools for what, exactly?

"My curiosity devours me."
Observe the "sneak peek"

She asks you to follow her into the scriptorium.  Inside, the two of you settle down on a perch.  Carina then says, "Well, Skylark, I'm sure you know what usually happens when someone tries to summon the gods.  There's fire, and lighting, or earthquakes.. and there was that situation with Ronald and the implosion, but that is probably best not dwelt upon.

What we're going to do tomorrow is a bit different.  Instead of summoning the gods to here, we're going to send the four of you to the realm of the gods.  It should be a lot easier, and the results will likely be less catastropic."  Carina then draws out a long scroll from the shelf.  "There's even some history with doing so, where it was said that once such a connection was made, the person could then call upon some of the powers of the gods in the waking land, so to speak.  It is our hope that this will show us the way, or at the very least, grant you the power to find a solution yourselves."

"Any questions?"  You can see her visibly pleased at getting to explain this.

Announce some plausible-sounding news on the criers' perch.  Try to not look confused.

You fly up to the criers' perch and wrack your brains.  Oh Yeah, there's this ritual tomorrow!  And someone's going to get 'sploded in it!  You begin to announce the horrible results of a summoning you think you might remember, where Lyklos the trickster came instead, and the celebrant and the villagers all glowed bright purple for the rest of their lives.  You think.

You notice that you're attracting a bit of an audience, with several other birds perched on buildings near you.

Hmm.  What was that human doing here?  Drak figured such a ceremony would be closed to outsiders... but he didn't know.

Observe the human.  What is it doing?

It seems to be resting on the side of the building.  After a few minutes, it goes into the shed.  You also see another bird that you do not recognize flying around, taking a close look at the circles.

(One last thing, I'm ready to advance to the ritual day whenever you'd like.)

Drak flapped over to the unknown bird.  "Good morning!  Are you looking forward to tomorrow's ritual?"

Preferably a sharp hook of some kind, yes?

(You've got your talons and beak.  But a metal hook is just fine.  What for, and what size?)

Hm. Well, when you put it that way, some sort of hammer would be more useful. Not a particularly large one, mind you, just your average bird hammering solution, something you can hammer nails with.

"...and they were promptly shunned by the entire community.  Honestly, these summoning things never go well for the sad-sacks involved, but they always manage to be entertaining for us spectators.  You might say time would be better spent addressing the flaws in society that led to this point instead of making these dangerous god-calling gambits-- but where's the fun in that?  Don't you want to see someone explode?  Or turn purple?  Or, eh... both?

So in conclusion my fine feathered friends, ask not what the Gods can do for you, but rather how you can avoid them at any cost.  And score seats to watch the summonings.  Any questions, whippersnappers?"

Khaal was quite pleased with himself.  He had clearly fulfilled whatever function he had been obligated to perform (probably, at least).  And with flying colors!  If anyone deserved a nice floppy sea bass, he thought, it was this bird right here.

If there are no questions, find a nice late breakfast.  Mmmm, sea bass!
((I'd be open to a timeskip if the others are.))

"Well then Carina, that certainly sounds interesting, I'll look forward to it tomorrow."

Go east breakfast, and then fly around or something for an hour or two, timeskip whatever, don't care

It takes a while, but you find a nice rock hammer after looking for some time.  It's overpriced, but what isn't these days.

If there are no questions, find a nice late breakfast.  Mmmm, sea bass!
((I'd be open to a timeskip if the others are.))

There is general agreement that purple is a lovely colour, suitable for all occasions, and that it is very welcome that such a fine specimen of bird such as yourself is going through the ritual tomorrow, rather than one of themselves.  Taking joy in your accomplishment, you fly off to get a well-earned meal.

Go east breakfast, and then fly around or something for an hour or two, timeskip whatever, don't care

You revel in the beautiful weather for the remainder of the morning.  It's a fine day to be alive.

Drak flapped over to the unknown bird.  "Good morning!  Are you looking forward to tomorrow's ritual?"

As you approach, you notice that the bird has landed near the ritual circles.  As you land, she smoothly greets you and turns around.  You approach to begin a friendly conversation.  Just as you are speaking, she shifts near you, and suddenly strikes out with a quick lunge with her beak!

{Encounter roll, 1.  Follow up roll, 1.  Suprise roll, 11+2 vs 1+2}

Combat, (12+3), 15, vs (2+2), 4.

Damage, (1d4 + 5), 6.

She grabs your right leg, and you struggle to free yourself.  Looking at her, she has some old scars, and seems to have lost her mind in the fighting.  You don't have time for philosophising, and you barely manage to wrench your badly gashed leg free.  As you do so, you manage to pull her off-balance, gaining a temporary advantage.  You don't notice the pain yet, due to the adrenaline, but there is an awful lot of blood.

(Ouch.)

(Timeskip will happen after next turn.)

He, Khaal, was going through the ritual tomorrow?
...

Ha, sure!  Next they'll shout that humans deserve equal rights!  Crowds say the funniest things sometimes.

Munch on that floppy sea bass delight.  Wander around in moderately senile confusion.  Be sure to ask a few passerbys what year it is and why the young people preen themselves so strangely.

More substantially, if any other elders are seen, ask them how the war is going against the hordes.

Drak was shocked, but not about to back down in the face of a challenge.  He couldn't show weakness now.

Strike back!  Aim to disable her, and knock her out of the fight without causing lasting injury.

How overpriced is overpriced? Can I afford it/do I have it now?

If yes, that will be all. Spend the rest of the time brooding and faffing about in preparation for the terror to follow.
