I embarked about the same distance from goblins, humans and a tower.
First human caravan arrived after almost two years, got a few groups of necromancers and then a big undead siege fairly early, but still haven't seen a single goblin.
Are there any towns/fortresses between you and the goblins?

If there is anything closer to the goblins that is not you, they will attack that instead I believe.

Dorf update and new questions.

Goblin corpses still rotting in the sun.  I like the engraving slabs idea that's in the works but no one wants to mive the corpses.  How do i do that?

An univited guest wandered into a group of unarmed porterz and had a party.  The guest was torn limb from limb before the military arrived.   I dont know who killed him.  That information doest seem to be in reports.  I would like to promote who ever finnished him off to champion.  Even if it was the duck.

Found marble finally so i can make my own steel.  I am think of buildinv three or four new smelters and forges.  Will that increase productivity or just confuse things and slow it down.  Im already getting tonnes of canceled orders.

The goblin corpses are refuse (dwarves are wondefully respectful to the deceased) and will therefore default to being ignored while outside. You'll have to change the 'o'rders for 'r'efuse to make them be hauled to stockpiles or dumped.

Can you not look to see who struck the last blow on the guest's report? That would likely be the killing blow.

If you have a manager and multiple metalsmiths and furnace operaters, multiple smelters and forges will speed things up. Cancellation spam normally comes from not having x job item, so consider addressing the root cause first; if you keep telling them to smelt, say, hematite but the miners haven't found any hematite for a while, you'll get cancellations. Once they're sorted out, the multiple forges &c will be faster, but you may not actually need all that speed.

You can try Dwarf Therapist's military screen. It marks kills and what was killed (when hovering over the kills column).

Goblin corpses can be moved in two ways:
1. As refuse. Make sure the corpses are not Forbidden. As stated above, this is disabled by default.
2. As Dumped. Make sure the corpses are not Forbidden.

Check the other combatants for kills.  One of them may have struck a blow that wasn't immediately fatal but caused the victim to bleed out or suffocate or something.

There is always conquering the HFS and playing with the caverns... like moving your entire fort into the third layer for shiggles.

I checked everyone in the vecinity but didnt find the culprit.  It was  hell of a pile on and the interface is a bit clunky so finding the names on one screen then jumping to another screen finding that name and checking them out.  It might have been the hunting lynx he got in a couple of good blows.  I dont think it was the duck.

I have also built a field of engraved slabs at my front door.  There is no detail on them.  Just a name not even a species.  And not who killed the either.

The details are not ON the slabs, but IN them. I don't remember if you get at it with loo'k', 'v'iew, or 'q'uery.

It's definitely not k.  You can also look up the slabs in the stocks screen and check them from there (press tab to show individual items).
