Seen two of my aunts and one of my uncles do too many stupid things, and seen the bad affects too often to have any faith in alcohol being a good use of resources or something at all good for society.

Still not going to. Alcohol is basically a legal mind altering drug that takes a larger amount to mess with you and still has no good reason to be inside your body other than to poison your liver and dull your senses. Try to give me any three practical ways Alcohol improves society.

Distilleries and bars create millions of jobs. Can't really think of any others other than for entertainment and celebration purposes, which is more of a 'bread and circuses' thing. Society can go stuff itself.

5 years of fun, 30 years of regret with drugs, alcohol just takes longer. There are better, safer, and much healthier ways to celebrate than filling your body with some kind of toxin or other, muting that point.

Distilleries, bars, and vineyards could easily be remade into more productive and useful establishments, thus the job point is mute.

And there will always be better ways to have fun than ingesting something that makes you prone to do the stupidest things your mind can think of because you lose your inhibitions. Really, the only reason alcohol isn't treated the same as drugs besides being more widely accepted is becuase you get sluggish and unable to act on some of your crazier ideas. Imagine if alcohol didn't cloud your mind and weaken your body, but only did the lowering of your inhibitions while still giving your body that 'tingle'.

It was described well in a book I read called The Wise Man's Fears where something did just that and could be created. Protagonist was poisoned with it and felt it was completely alright to offer his friend all the money he had to see her naked for a second, had the urge to strangle someone for bumping into him while walking down a crowded street, and deemed killing someone they absolutely hated was the best course of action while also knowing full well he would end up in jail but not seeing the problem with any of it.

Rant over, its 2am, and I am still wide awake despite the time and my fairly heavy cold. Ugh.

And shipping doesn't improve society, people just do it because they want romance, and of course the Bay12 Underground [REDACTED] Club is a thing as well.
