Have the miner who isint hurt digout a pair of rooms to the side, one of the masons make a table and a chest, and when they are done have them start building a single level tower over the hole, with a space in the center big enough to hold a trade depot, one of the walls with space for a bridge to go, and with space around it for storage/stairs going down.

When the two rooms are done, have the miner start digging out a layer below that while the rest of the fort moves the bed, the table and the chest to one room, which gets assigned as a hospital.
