Games with the Best A.I
« on: November 28, 2014, 08:41:12 am »

Dwarf Fortress has pretty fun A.I and it's improving.

What about other games? Games with smart A.I. Suggest any form including mainstream, roguelike, textbased.
Try to focus on singleplayer.

Bonus points if:
-game is emergent
-if game is NOT a RTS or like 4X like Civilization

The first Black & White has a pretty convincing creature that you can raise and teach and stuff, it's pretty believable :)

Aww, I used to love playing this game. This one time, I wanted my creature to develop and become big so I left it on and went out for a long time, and when I came back, it turned to become a giant powerful douchebag. Really teaches you not to neglect :P

Yep :P It's even more fun when you play online against other players. My creature was stomped in a fight (my creature was good while the other creature was evil and had practiced...a LOT!) and after my creature got beaten, the opponent pooped on his unconscious body. It was hilarious to watch and the player admitted he trained his creature to do that :P

Insurgency has some of the craziest, but good A.I. I've seen. Although it is co-op, it still is really intense against the A.I., especially when you play the hardest difficulty.

I remember F.E.A.R impressed me at the time with its AI.  The bad guys would actually go and flank you and try to attack from multiple directions.  I know somebody might say that isn't real AI, but for me its the perception that is important.

Real AI doesn't exist, much to Marvin Minsky's chagrin. :P

Creatures is pretty well-known for its AI.

It's even funnier when you learn that the devs didn't really intend to make it that good. Unfortunately, with AI vs AI, it isn't that good since they only do that against you, the player.

For roguelikes, I nominate Incursion. Monsters that fight each other intelligently and flee intelligently and can actually determine if what they picked up is trash or not.
