Van Doorne assembles a team. This is a landing, so we need some of the better troops to handle it. Operation Lone Vengance is a go!


A new alien type, and a very scary one. I was none too pleased to see one of these so early on.


This thing wrecked Van Doorne with a grenade toss early on and a high energy beam attack later on. It was only due to the expert care of the team medic that he was back on his feet for the rest of the mission.

Also, it explodes when destroyed.


The mission was a success, and netted us quite a lot of alien materials.


It was rough, though. Lots of floaters moving around and flanking everyone, a Chryssalid rush early on, and then the disk and some drones after we'd been weakened a good bit by the floaters. Only the skill of the soldiers let us pull though. Top work by everyone on that one!

The funny thing is that the EXALT op will probably be a cakewalk compared to that nonsense.

For my girl, uh... Change her last name to Kawalec, and when nickname comes up, call her Banjo

Head: 9
Skin Colour: 2
Hair: 3
Hair Colour: 5

Armour Deco: 13
Armour Tint: 19

Equipment wise, stick to beam lasers until pulse or plasma show up, rifles until I hit 85 aim then heavy rifle. Scope and HE/Alien grenade for extra shooting/cover clearing. Heaviest armour available, so long as no-one else would get more use out of it.

Cyberdisks are very killable with Beam lasers (just get some shredder or heat on them), but getting decent armour so we can soak the grenade toss is a very good idea.

My character looks pretty good, but for equipment she'll probably need a scope most importantly with that low accuracy, although that should get better over time. Squad sight will be really nice, too.

HMR stands for Hazardous Materials Requisition, not Horrible Massive Ruination, though I can understand how one could get confused.

Welcome to long war, the game where you always want (need) better stuff all the time, but either still need to research it or don't have the money to build it. :P

Soldier Update:


The aliens decide to send in a medium ship to blow up one of our satellites. That's a bit of a problem, so we send up the interceptors. Hopefully they can at least do enough damage to drive it off.



It puts up a nasty, nasty fight, and manages to take out Ogre before he can disengage in time



But eventually we manage to at least drive it off without losing a satellite


The next day we get a message from our Operative. Time to strike against Exalt!


We'll need to send in an extraction squad to help defend while the data finishes transmitting.


With most of the troops recovering from the recent attacks, we put together the best team we can. Fortunately, humans should be a good bit easier than aliens, and it is a solid team.

We'll need another interceptor to replace the one that got shot down. Expensive loss, but at least it'll be up and running soon.


We also get a laser cannon installed on one of the European fighters


Since there is some cash left over, we sell off some unneeded stuff and buy a pair of Scatter lasers. We'll be needing these soon, I fear.



And not long after our research into Alien Materials is complete.



Now, we have to decide what to research next.

We need pretty much everything, of course. The ship analyses are pretty quick (3 days each) and would help our air game a little bit. Autopsies have some useful things as well, and take about 6 days apiece. Everything else is around 11 or 12 days.
