Or we could let the US leave the council, and then we raid the aliens' base there after that? I don't think it's worth pursuing NA at this point, but we should build up interceptor capability for whichever continent we want to blanket with satellites :3

The aliens send an attack force to China.


The soldiers prep for battle. Intel reports moderate alien presence, so we won't be sending any rookies on this one.




A good clean mission. Nothing spectacular happens, and only one soldier was injured.


China is most grateful for our quick response

Two new soldiers arrive in the barracks. We'll have to see about getting them some experience.



We trade weapon fragments to Mexico and Germany for some more skilled Engineers




A priority transmission from the Council comes in. It seems there is a new threat to deal with, a traitorous group of Humans calling themselves Exalt. They are actively working to stop our efforts against the aliens.



And it seems that their first action is to hack our research systems. Most disturbing.


We'll need to send an operative in to work against them. I choose Zhang, since he's the most qualified we have for pistol work at the moment.




We'll be sending in an extraction team in the next few days to get him back out, along with whatever information he's managed to recover from Exalt.

Did this thing appear because the US reached max panic, or is it scripted to always appear after a certain amount of time?

EXALT stuff is scripted, we're lucky they didn't do a propaganda blitz in Canada/Mexico to make it harder for us keep council nations. Still, a research hack is pretty nasty :/

It seems I missed the bit where Zhang isn't forced to become a Heavy/Weapons guy straight after he joins XCOM...

In the meantime, a scout ship heads over africa. It takes two interceptors, but we manage to down it.



A perfect chance to train up the new rookies!






Near perfect mission! Got meld, no injuries, and 4 leveled rookies!


A few days later Germany comes under attack.


The troops are readied


Haul is given Holotargeting, since I haven't received anything about what to do with him.


Next up, Operation Bloody Heat

No rest for XCOM, however. Almost as soon as the troops got back we get a priority mission from the council



Our med bay is looking rather full right now, and unfortunately both of our assaults are going to be out of action for a bit longer. This mission is going to be rough...


Rickenbacker is promoted to Lieutenant


And Kaos is promoted to Corporal


We assemble a team from the available soldiers. Good troops, all of them, let's hope they can do what needs to be done.

No, no. Naming the character 'Delta 1' was somewhat of a reference to the regular memory wipes Ghosts go through. Hence I thought it was more fitting to give him a name like that rather than a proper one, at first. I renamed him later once he became more experienced and... Had his own personality, really.
I'll either keep 'Omega' as the nickname, or you can change it to 'Skeith' or 'Abel'. Up to you, whichever one you think is cooler. xD
I'll take the Battle Scanners. As nice as it would be to be a bad ass 'lone wolf' the point of a Scout is to support their squad. Besides, utility is always good.
