Anti dibs on officer.

(I don't want to be an officer.)

Nobody wants to be an officer. Not when the alternative is crushing things with your mind or giant mechanical fists.

Wow, Negative defence, I feel so special!

Dibs on officer!
Unless we want to hold elections for officer or something like that...
In truth defense doesn't make that big of a difference, IIRC a -1 defense just means that enemies will have a 51% chance of hitting that shot instead of a 50% one, and is weigh outweighed by factors like cover.

I'd totally be an officer if I wasn't a yolo-flanker assault. :P

The only way I can see that kind of shooting technique being useful is if you were in a massively cramped area.
It truly does look ridiculous though...
It is actually a valid stance (as confirmed in this thread), though in reality you would probably rest the rifle on a nearby wall or whatnot if at all possible first. Being xcom with highly destructible terrain, they decided to avoid the waste of time coding that to spend time on other aspects of the game. :P

(Also it's hilarious when multiple overwatches are triggered at once since the sniper shoots so much later. I've had times where an alien pops out and is utterly annihilated by like 6 overwatches, then like 4 seconds later the sniper finally shoots their bullet over the long-dead corpse. XD)

Much as I would love to crush squishy aniels with my mind, it would detract from my overwatch and suppression time, and who wants that?

Why does my guy keep shooting his Marksman's rifle one handed? >_>
Is that the crit animation or something?

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

It's a genuine shooters stance. Means you aren't supporting the weight of the rifle with your wrist and hand, instead you can use your nice meaty arm for it.

Rickenbacker can be an officer if we need more than one.

Is it too late to sign up for a casualty soldier?

Of course not! Pick a soldier off the Barracks roster in the OP that isn't already named. Or you can wait a little bit, I've got some new rookies coming in soon.

RAM, pick which perk you want for Lieutenant

GiglameshDespair: You can have the second officer spot if you want it. Doesn't seem like anyone else is too keen on the position.

I never liked using MEC characters for some reason ._. Maybe its my philosophical side...

Or that I love hugging cover.

Make me an officer if nobody else wants to! :D

...Except for this part. Just for the steam achievement, I made Zhang into a MEC trooper with that nice fist augment.

Never regretted just charging up and punching aliens.
With them fists.
And watching them flop like a ragdoll soon after. Same for EXALT!

Another alien craft appears, scanning for our satellites. Fighters are launched to intercept.

Our craft sustain heavy damage in the fighting, but we manage to take it down

Movement is detected at the crash site, so a team is sent in to mop up.

Van Doorne will take a group of Specialists in for some additional combat experience.

The mission goes smoothly, with only some minor burns on the Scout from a lucky Sectoid shot.

The team got some good experience from the mission, and we have some more basic resources at our disposal

Engineering has informed me that our new Autolaser is ready, which means we have at least one heavy laser weapon at our dispoal. Very good news!

A request comes in from Brazil for Sectoid Corpses, a trade I am always happy to make. We need all the scientists we can get!

A few days later another alien craft shows up on the scanners. A medium ship, heading to Egypt!

A fierce battle over the African skies ensues

And the ship is finally brought down

With alien survivors at the crash site, a team is assembled to assault the ship.

Being a larger vessel, a more experienced team is going to be required.

HEAT Ammo any day. You'll thank me when we start facing Cyberdisk and other threats.

Question though: if you shredder rocket a mechanical unit, does the Heat Ammo bonus benefit from the shredder's debuff?

And does Shredder damage count as explosive in terms of getting mission-end loot?

As far as I know, Shredder and HEAT stack. I know I've used both on Sectopods late game to rip them to shreds quickly.

And Shredder Ammo just applies an effect, it doesn't count as an explosion on its own, so it is just fine for getting loot.
