Well, my last LP for XCOM died a while back, as so many do. But I'm going to try again. This time with the Long War mod.




We'll be going Classic for this, which should be suitably horrific for our mortality rate. I'm going to be doing Pseudo Ironman, which is to say I'm going to allow myself the option of rolling back to a previous save if I hit a point where I'm playing horribly and really should have quit a while ago. Happens when I get too hungry or tired to think. I'll try not to use it too often and we won't be doing that within a mission, so if I have to back out it'll force me to redo everything as a disincentive to use the option much.

Long War itself is...extensive. So extensive I'm not even going to bother trying to write up all the changes. Pretty much everything has been tweaked, expanded upon, etc. Just...go look at the wiki for it. Suffice to say that the LP is going to be rather different from a normal game of XCOM, even if the core of the game is the same.

As usual, you're welcome to sign up for soldiers, give me recommendations on what to do at a strategic level, and bemoan our horrible fates as I try to play X-Com with a head cold.

A few differences from last time, since this is long war. First off, we're going to be using many, many more soldiers in this due to the fatigue system. We're also going to be going on many, many more missions. So I'm only going to be doing screencap stuff for missions your squad is on. And the soldiers you guys claim will, as much as I can manage, be a single cohesive squad. Ideally you'll be the Hero squad and I'll send you guys off on the big important missions, but we'll see how it goes. I'll have NPC squads doing other stuff and you'll hear reports about how they're doing. I'll also use NPCs as filler in your squad if people are in sick bay (which can be for a month or so for really bad injuries).

You may wish to work together to try and get a cohesive squad put together, but I'll work with whatever you guys give me. Due note that your squad will eventually need an officer, so one of you should plan on taking on that responsibility at some point (and therefore will not be MEC or Psionic). Squads start at 6 troops and can go up to 8.

I'm collecting the customization options here so people can more easily decide how they want their people to look. This will probably grow slowly. Note that in Long War there is also the sleeveless version of each armor for the lighter versions. We can also give any class all of the options, so there is even more customization options.

Preferred class: Rocketeer, if possible.
Preferred weapon: Explosive/Heavy weapons.
Preferred equipment: More Explosives.
Preferred tactics: Not quite suicidal, but very aggressive. Use full cover whenever possible. If not possible to kill allium with turn, destroy their cover. If not possible to destroy cover, overwatch. Do not use gas pumps as cover. Blow those fuckers up. Nonliving collateral damage (to buildings, vehicles, etc,) is not only acceptable, but incredibly entertaining.

HQ setup: MURICA. The bonus to satellites is amazing.

As a quick question, do you have that 'Extra customisation' DLC thing?
Because I remember having this helmet with a skeleton face on it and I couldn't figure out if it was Long war or that pack.

Europe. All the dough we save can go towards more interceptors. Reduced maintenance costs is the gift that keeps on giving.

Can I PTW join as an interceptor pilot? Preferred tactics would be aggressive interception of UFOs regardless of size.
