With the extra funds we have available a final interceptor is ordered to round out our compliment in Africa


And with excavations complete, a new power generator begins construction.


A week passes before any more sign of the aliens in Africa, when an abduction attempt is detected in South Africa


Eager to take advantage of these relatively easy early egagements to give our soldiers experience, a fresh squad is given the opportunity to fight the aliens.


A fierce battle along a heavily damaged Dam


But the team performs extremely well and the mission is completed without a single scratch on our soliders.






Some promotions are due and make their way through the paperwork trail


Rickenbacker is our first Lance Corporal! She can take Steadfast (Immunity to many panic types and +5 Will), Executioner (+10 Aim and Crit against badly damaged enemies), or Covering Fire (Overwatch triggrs on alien attacks as well as movement and +3 Aim)








As always, if you want something tweaked about your soldier's appearance or loadout let me know.

Also, I'm worried. These missions have been WAY too easy for Classic. I fear the game is building up to some nasty surprise for us.

Our research into Alien Weaponry is complete!



We can now manufacture some very useful items




And we must decide what to research next:


Xenobiology will allow us to dissect corpses for research, and leads to capturing live aliens, genetic modifications of our troops, and psionics. Corpses and Captive Aliens are much more useful in long war as funding nations will often trade scientists and engineers for them. It's one of the best way to get those, since Workshops and Labs no longer grant them when built.

Alien Materials leads to the better armor types

Experimental Warfare opens up quite a few useful items that we can build and leads to a bunch of Foundry projects for when we build that.

Beam Weapons gives us laser weapons, of course. Very useful, although laser weapons are expensive and it'll be a bit before we have the resources to convert over completely.

I've got to say, aside from the exposed arms which aren't particularly ghost-ee you got the look I was aiming for nailed down pretty nicely. Once access to carapace armor arrives, it'll be perfect.

I'd like to add a marksman's scope to my equipment roster if possible. Otherwise, SCOPE. (I'm not sure which one's better because I think there's some kind of effect from the laser pointer, but marksman's scope seems more fitting.)
Experimental Warfare. Seems to open up the most options. Flexibility is good.

The exposed arms look really cold...

Alien materials maybe? Assuming lasers are too expensive right now.

I can't really understand the reasoning of the people who designed that armor. I mean, I can understand the hands or fingers being exposed, that would allow more dexterity, but why is the entire arm uncovered? I can't really think of anywhere more debilitating to a soldier than a useless arm/hand. Obviously other than having both eyes blown out (maybe even in this case), or their head removed. The functionality of a leg is far more easy to replicate with a prosthetic than a hand.

If you wear thick armour on your arms and legs, you aren't going to be mobile. On the torso, the weight can be distributed effectively, but not quite so much on the limbs. Either you have thick enough armour it's inhibiting rather than protecting or it's thin enough it's ineffective. Or, as is done, you simply don't have armour on the limb for stopping bullets (or plasma in this case, which is deadlier). Limb armour is generally for stopping shrapnel.

It comes down to the best way of surviving is simply not getting shot. Offensive capabilities of weapons now greatly outdoes the defensive capabilities of armour for the most part.
