Has anybody ever gotten a goblin caravan? The wiki says it's possible, however, I've never had one myself.

I think it's possible if they have some kind of pack animals. Never tested it myself though, and it might be complete hogwash.

The only 'domestic' animals they ever seem to have are trolls, and occasionally ogres.

The wiki says "mod the game", so I don't think you'll see one if you are playing vanilla DF.

Has anyone mentioned animal people yet? They're kind of cool.

Batmen and Wolverine-men I support forming a civilization. Then they will fight crime, and annihilate goblins.

My favorite are plump helmet men.

My favorite are plump helmet men.
Train them to seek out and find hungry dwarfs, so dwarfs don't waste time going to the food stockpile.

Vanilla DF races. Elves are snooty and pointless. But they have numbers close to the millions. Great for an infinite war.
Humans are cool, you can purchase stuff from them for cheap and they take away what you don't need.
Dwarves that aren't in your fortress are reasonable beings, I quite like them. They've also got a lot of seeds.
Goblins are fun as they just charge on in and you can watch them get impaled by the new and improved Balista Bolts.
Kobolds are adorable. I always leave things out for them.

Modded DF. I've got the Samurai mod, so there's a human civilization that is Feudal Japan. You can purchase katanas from them. Also got the Norse Fortress mod, you got Norse humans. Lots of good fun.
Elves are a lot better thanks to the Dinosaur mod and the Monster Hunter mod. They bring in a lot more useful trained animals.
Humans will often war with the modded human civs mentioned above. It's kinda cool to think about it like that.
Dwarves are the same. They don't have much in the way of changes thanks to the new creatures other than the strange one off pack animal.
Kobolds are still adorable, and they somehow manage to live in these new death worlds.
Goblins are still great for killing.

...Seeds? They only have the really boring seeds. Dwarf food. None of the cool other types of seeds like maize and rye and blackberry seeds. Humans have more seeds, usually, and of a more interesting type.

How do you define 'interesting', though? Just more variety?

1. More variety, sure.
2. More variety in the type of alcoholic beverages that you can brew from the plants those seeds grow.
3. More variety in the types of flours you can make.... which leads to even more variety in the booze.

What if I told you that DF doesn't force you to kill anything not already hostile? It just tries to be realistic in a way (well, except for noble demands and [parts of] "justice" system). Hatred for something different (like elves), gladiator-like children training, selecting dwarves for needed traits and getting rid of unwanted ones especially, training soldiers on captured hostile creatures/POWs is the product of your imagination.

I am admittedly something of an elf sympathizer.  I have no reservations about poking fun at their tree-humping ways, but I don't go out of my way to bother them.  I like the critters they bring too.

The mountainhome dwarves are kind of boring, but very useful and convenient. No iron ore on the embark?  Just order it from the liaison!

Humans are probably my favorite trading partners.  They bring the same basic categories of stuff as the mountainhomes, but different.  They're my go-to source for new surface crops and help bring variety into the dwarves' diet.

I'm just starting to play with invaders on (shameful, I know) so I don't have much to say about goblins or kobolds.

You will soon learn that goblins are your best friends. After all, it's a little too cruel to use dwarves in Aztec-style sacrificial pits (although it is funny, to be honest). No qualms about them green buggers though.
