LA Noire is a pretty good game. The rules for commandeering vehicles causing property damage aren't very realistic, but that is to keep the game fun.

That game follows no police procedure it is just meant to be a fun game about lying. Everybody is lying!

This thread just seems like a molotov cocktail at some point in an arc.   :-\  No reason to say more than that, though.

If you play them well, security officers in SS13 can portray any kind of police force.  I play on /tg/, so generally they portray "shitcurity", but there's no reason you can't RP honorable cops or corrupt police or mindless bureaucratic sticklers or brilliant TV style forensics scientists.

Real talk, in-game police interactions take a lot of RPing and that's just not something most of the video game market is into.  SS13 on RP-med-light servers is, to me, the reflection of this.

There is a free game on steam where you can play either cops or robbers. But the cops are basically just robbers with a badge and a few more rules. Its an mmofps.

Now that I got home, APB Reloaded.

Ustxu Iceraped the Frigid Crystal of Slaughter was a glacier titan. It was the only one of its kind. A gigantic feathered carp composed of crystal glass. It has five mouths full of treacherous teeth, enormous clear wings, and ferocious blue eyes. Beware its icy breath! Ustxu was associated with oceans, glaciers, boats, and murder.

APB Reloaded has its merits.
It also has it's F2P money-grubbing, so there's that. Not that fun can't be had with the free stuff, but I get the feeling it's very much one of those games that intends on getting a lot out of a few people rather than a bit from most.

I thought they stopped supporting APB because of it's prolonged development and an underwhelming number of players.

Goodness the sheer number of reasons why APB failed.

It just goes to show that completely misrepresenting your game doesn't always work.

Not every game can be dead island.

Ah yes, APB Reloaded was funny on Kongregate. It's one of the most gregarious examples there of the developer buying a specific star rating. What was even more funny is when they try to defend themselves that while every comment rated it one star or less, the average star rating of APB Reloaded never varied from a rating of 4.3.

The topic instantly took me back to frisking hobos in the original True Crime: LA. At least Sleeping Dogs turned into a masterpiece rather than the mess that was True Crime: Hong Kong.

Either you meant 'egregious' or it was a particularly extroverted abuse of the system.

There is a Police class in Face of mankind. It was pretty strict with procedures so you might check it out. Haven't played it in a long time tho.
Good lord, a blast from the past, if you ever play there, if you see the LTD group im the one who made that :). LED Tactical Department. It was total chaos on release day and all these memories coming back to life.... I basicly made an elite rapid response team to answer all sorts of call and keep the peace. whem they heard LTD was coming it was either "Shit lets get the fuck out" or "We are saved!" kinda of mentality. Really my best acheivement in an online game. Funny thing, everything i was doing, procedure i was implementing was bullshitted, i had shitstorm on nearly every op i was doing because i was too effective with my team, and then i had to leave or get the group disbanded. Funny thing a few month later, everything i was being bullshitted at was now a pre-requisite and had to be done or get bullshitted at haha.

Now? i have no idea is the group is still alive or if it is even effective. Thank you for the trip back to memory lane haha.

Face of Mankind has changed dramatically (particularly over the last 2 years), and not for the good.. it is truly just a shadow of it's former glory.

Jocan, who were you in FoM? We probably knew each other back then, because I was IIA.

All I can think to say is where is the in-depth police officer roguelike!? Someone needs to birth it (ideally with tileset support in mind, bahaha)!

It would make for good gameplay if all the common stuff was put in..
*Questioning/interrogation
*Inspecting house interiors and searching vehicles
*Using non-lethal force primarily while having to choose when its justified to fight for your own life
*Crowd control 'missions' and patrol routes, ability to advance up to a captain, sheriff, detective, K-9 unit, or SWAT team member, *Interacting with local gangs/contacts and setting up stings
*Choosing whether or not to be a 'clean' cop or not
*'Intrigue' stuff like personally investigating potential crooked cops (or government officials) and coping with inter-office politics
*Choosing gear loadouts and your 'ride-along' partner..

And thats just scratching the surface :| (like forming relationships with the locals and using charisma skills to gain their trust, and the trust of communities).. All kinds of good stuff could be added! Just watch out for serial killers (and play-as-a-serial-killer mods) ;)
