No one mentioned LA Noire? It is more investigations than paperwork, but it is fun enough.

My wife said it was the most boring game ever. When I accident ran into another car she asked me if I needed to get out and swap insurance.

Was about to post this one as well. It of course depends on if you prefer to be the boys in blue patrolling the streets or more of a detective. I really enjoyed LA Noire's story which had a nice gradual build-up. If you want to get a taste of LA in the 40's this is the game for you.

Some GTA and Postal 2 Kinda let you work as a cop sometime.

There was an old (90's) game "Hill Street Blues" - more about managing the shift than individual police work though, iirc...

Police Quest is a combination of proper police procedure and Sierra bullshit, if you really think you can handle it.

Given that Police Quest actually has puzzles that involve "Do what a police actually does"... yeah.

I do suggest READING THE MANUAL before playing them.

Quite a few puzzles rely on you knowing how to do your own job and rely on you reading the manual because the game won't tell you (this isn't a flaw... back then people did read the manuals and the manual was important for playing most games back then).

There are almost no games that actually attempt to play like you are a real police officer that I can think of.

There is a Police class in Face of mankind. It was pretty strict with procedures so you might check it out. Haven't played it in a long time tho.

And on the shootier side, the SWAT series is quite realistic for a police shooter, with you having to follow proper procedure and RoE or face failing the level despite clearing it.

Speaking of Blue... there is always Blue Force. It's pretty much Police Quest without the Quest.

As for a more sandbox or simulation I don't think something like it exists.

Good lord, a blast from the past, if you ever play there, if you see the LTD group im the one who made that . LED Tactical Department. It was total chaos on release day and all these memories coming back to life.... I basicly made an elite rapid response team to answer all sorts of call and keep the peace. whem they heard LTD was coming it was either "Shit lets get the fuck out" or "We are saved!" kinda of mentality. Really my best acheivement in an online game. Funny thing, everything i was doing, procedure i was implementing was bullshitted, i had shitstorm on nearly every op i was doing because i was too effective with my team, and then i had to leave or get the group disbanded. Funny thing a few month later, everything i was being bullshitted at was now a pre-requisite and had to be done or get bullshitted at haha.

Now? i have no idea is the group is still alive or if it is even effective. Thank you for the trip back to memory lane haha.

I'm reminded of the old Floor 13, which was more of a counter-espionage thing... but somehow it always felt policey. Same thing with Sid Meier's Covert action. They both have this Investigate a crime and arrest people when there's enough evidence simulator vibe going.

SMCA, definitely. You're essentially a detective, except you use spy gadgets in combat and for electronic surveillance.

Floor 13 is a bit more of an administrative Secret Police/Men in Black simulator, especially if you have to go less subtle and send some jackbooted thugs to blackbag or assasinate a person to cover up the incident you're dealing with.

Seconded, SWAT 4 is pretty great. It's very realistic, I still play it once in a while.
