Police officer type games
« on: November 24, 2014, 09:31:41 pm »

I'm just curious, are there any good police officer simulators? Preferably dynamic where you have to carry out warrants and be a traffic cop or something. Also being able to do some paperwork, at least basically. I don't know why but I've always wanted a good simulator, I actually partially play SS13 to be a Sec officer.

I already know about games like police quest but I'm curious if there are any newer games that anyone would recommend.

Police Quest is a combination of proper police procedure and Sierra bullshit, if you really think you can handle it.

You can always take up Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, and tackle racers with a Lamborghini and hi-tech spike strips that deploy from the back of the car like some James Bond vehicle. :P

There's the Police mod for GTA 4 which is pretty much what you described.  Open ended stuff, being a traffic cop, responding to calls.  Sometimes strange things happen and you can go on a rampage and it doesn't affect your standing but if you intentionally play it straight it's pretty fun.

Sleeping Dogs is a GTA-style game done in a Hong Kong Undercover Cop setting. If you're into those kind of movies, it's a great game. Triad, lots of Kung Fu, lots of car chases, but actually very few guns.

Well i could heavily suggest this one, hard to get more simulation than that. Althou the game content is kinda lightweight, i feel the game is more of a technical demo than a full fledge game. Nonetheless there is many hours you can sink in for the pricetag.

Minecraft UI is very simple. There's only so many ways you can implement "simple" without copying something. We also gonna complain that it uses WASD?

I'm thinking Breach and Clear (http://store.steampowered.com/app/266130/) might interest you. I know I'm interested :)

What about the rest of the True Crime games? They're all pretty good, even if hammy.
And I think Driv3r tried to rip that off, so you might want to try that too.

I can't help but think about making "Blue Code", a game where you can do any stupid shit as long as you cover it up and/or help other cops cover up their stuff. "Oops, that black five year old you shot had a lollipop, not a gun. No problem, let's sprinkle some crack over him and put a toy gun in his hand." Then if you do really good you get promoted to Department of Homeland Security, where you can do the same except people get sent to Gitmo or "disappear" instead.

I'm fuzzy on this one, but I seem to recall a DOS-era game that was on HotU where you acted as an ethics officer in the police department. Light graphics that were extraneous; would've been perfectly fine as a pure text game.

No one mentioned LA Noire? It is more investigations than paperwork, but it is fun enough.

My wife said it was the most boring game ever. When I accident ran into another car she asked me if I needed to get out and swap insurance.
