Make q/k/t easier to use
« on: November 24, 2014, 11:35:22 am »

I frequently find myself in 'q' needing 'k' instead, or in 'k' needing 'q'.  Since k doesn't do anything in q, and q doesn't do anything in k, it would be really convenient if q worked from k and k worked from q and they left the cursor in the EXACT SAME POSITION.  I added in 't' even through I seldom find myself needing it because the change would probably work there too.

This would actually be quite handy. It might be nice if the info from 't' was integrated with 'q', as well - I think there's enough space in the menu for it.

I'm actually more in favour of having access to each other view from each view.

I find that I want to switch less from 'k' to 'q' and more from 'q' to 't'; sometimes I want to check what I've got in a workshop before queuing up more.

It does leave the cursor in the same position.

Not in vanilla DF - you must be using DFHack's "tweak stable-cursor".

There was a typo in the siegers' campfire code. When the fires went out, so did the game.

Oh yeah, I always forget I'm not using vanilla. But I do believe q/t/k should stay completely seperate. Looking at a building, or trying to give an order, would be frustrating if dozens of items were there.

You forget "v" ("z" if you are in "u" menu).
I wonder if there's a better way to "v"iew a dwarf without leaving the menu, you know it is painful to esc and search again in the "u" menu when you have hundreds of dwarves.

The DFHack tweak also affects the "b" menu (and possibly others that I'm not aware of - it should retain the cursor when switching between any menus and the main view).

I don't want them combined, I just want to move between them effortlessly.

Oh, switching between them without [esc]! I second that motion then.

The main idea is that you should be able to switch menus seamlessly without leaving each mode. so being able to click the t/q/k/v buttons in each mode switches mode but leaves you pointing at the same thing.

Yes. This and stable cursor would be great. +1
