SNES:
Chrono Trigger; Live A Live (it's online ROM only; Japanese game that never officially came out in English, but was fan-translated); Super Mario RPG.

GBA:
Harvest Moon:  Friends of Mineral Town.  FARMING.

PS1:
Breath of Fire III & IV; Legend of Mana; Xenogears; Final Fantasy Tactics.  Lotsa good RPGs here yo.
Also agree with Brave Fencer Musashi, that shit's good times.

Skimmed the thread, didn't see anyone suggest it.

GBA:
Mario and Luigi : Superstar Saga

One of the few games I still play on any of my handhelds occasionally, not counting the pokemon games.

If this thread included DS I'd add to that, Spehss. But I'll just second it instead.

Hey why not, show me what you guys have got for DS. I'm playing Infinite Space and Etrian Odyssey right now, as well as Bravely Default on my 3DS. I also have Professor Layton, Castlevania, Dragon Quest Monsters which I'm working on, and I've beat all the Phoenix Wright games.

DS games? 'kay.

Mario and Luigi : Partners in Time is also good. Sequel to the first Mario and Luigi game. There's also Mario and Luigi : Bowser's Inside Story but I have no experience playing that. If it's anything like the first two it's probably good though.

... if it's an actual DS, you might have trouble wrangling it, but Soma Bringer got fantranz'd a bit back and is kinda' interesting if you're into action RPG stuff. There's also 7th Dragon along the same translation vein, also pretty good but more along the lines of Etrian Odyssey (and yeah, those are good, too).

There's one of those RTS-y games from the summon night series for it, I think, maybe some others, too. There's a mana game on it, too, but I vaguely remember hearing ill words about it. Rune factory stuff's neat, as was mentioned upthread a bit. World Ends with You is kinda' obvious. Same with Radiant Histora. Wanna' say the luminous arc stuff was alright SRPGs, if somewhat wonky in theme. Roughly similar sentiment there with Sands of Destruction, though iirc it's a straight up RPG. There's a Megami Tensai SRPG on the DS too, I think -- probably want to give that a gander. Suikoden game's on there, yeah. Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes is... surprisingly pleasing for a match-3 style game. There's a disgaea game :V The FFTA games are there, as well as that other final fantasy one that's RTS-y and... it was kinda' interesting, I guess? Knights in the Nightmare is kinda' freaking awesome, but also kinda' freaking weird. Rondo of Swords was a pretty neat SRPG-thing.

If you can stand the fanservice, the Super Robot Taisen OG Saga stuff is pretty damn excellent. Pretty engaging combat system.

I personally liked Black Sigil, but others complain about the encounter rate iirc. It's... fairly old school. I love the opening sequence-ish bit, though -- being protag is suffering, it's pretty great. Combat's also quite solid, iirc.

... and that's all I can remember. Except to mention Yggdra Union and related stuff, which I don't think was every released english on the DS but there's some other stuff on the GBA (and PSP, iirc... maybe something else, too) I can't recall if was mentioned. Nietzsche typecast as a loli mermaid is something I don't think I'll ever forget.

E: And yeah, the link worked, if it's supposed to be a series of screenshots from one of the valkyrie-whatever games, heh.

Non-gba english Yggdra union exists on the psp, I think. The gba version is harder if I remember.

Ah, the pokemon mystery dungeon games are decent pokemon-based dungeon crawlers. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red Rescue Team for GBA and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Blue Rescue Team for DS, and later sequels for the DS I can't be bothered to remember due to being so-so sequels.

Mystery Dungeon Blue was pretty good though.

I didn't see it mentioned, so if you don't mind yet another pair of JRPGs I can reccomend Metal max Returns for the SNES and Metal saga for the PS2. Both are somewhat more open ended than usual JRPGs that focus on tanks.

And although I don't see anyone taking the recommendation seriously, I've been enjoying Senran Kagura Burst on the 3ds too.

MIGHT try Partners in Time because: more babby mario (<3 Yoshi's Island).

-snip-
Why not, I'll grab this stuff.

I tried some Yggdra thing and found it excruciating at worst, perplexing at the best of times. I want to say it was the GBA one.

Ehh, I've played them, along with stuff like Chocobo Dungeon and Azure Dreams and I just can't get into any of them, which makes me a bit upset because I'm loving the setting surrounding Azure Dreams (I love desert levels, so a whole game that's in the desert is cool).

Someone recommended that to me at some point when I was joking about making a sim where you have a bunch of sentient tanks on a ranch and you breed them, and at some point I wondered aloud if there was an entire RPG where you're in a tank.

What the hell I'll buy that for a laugh because you recommend it and I lub yu :> (and because of how I normally go super out of my way to avoid that particular type of anime).

There's an obscure psx dragon breeding game out there. Dragon Seeds. It might be good for a lark.

I will admit I've enjoyed generally enjoyed Sting's stuff* more once I started cheating away things like item durability, ha.

That said, Riviera on the GBA was the more confusing of it and Union, imo, and somewhat more painful to play. Still pretty neat, especially once you took the codebreaker to it, but... it was. Still, I'd actually call Union legitimately excellent, once you wrap your head around it, and Riviera still pretty good, just a bit... opaque? Sting's stuff tends to take some investment to get in to, for better or for worse. Though yeah the whole item system thing hurt worse than Fire Emblem, sweet gods alive. It almost physically hurt until I stuck in infinite durability cheats ;_;

... though note that Knights in the Nightmare is also a Sting game :P Takes a bit to crack open, but then you're in this wonky bullet hell SRPG and things are marvelous.

*With the exception of Treasure Hunter G back on the SNES. Which was pretty darn impressive, by the by, and much less experimental.

The original Harvest Moon for SNES is highly recommended.
It might not have as many features as the later games, but some people might prefer it that way.

Oh god, is that the game with the hour of useful tutorial mode next to the story?
