I missed this earlier. I didn't see the announcement in the games threshold discussion that this went into sign-ups.

Welcome aboard, Comrade.  My second game ever was a bastard game, so you're welcome to join (although I'm not sure which game number you're on).

Out of respect for all of the holidays coming up, the game will not start until both one more person join and January 2nd has arrived (or at the very least December 26th).

This is my 3rd game. You've been in both my others. However you met McDonald my replacement in the first.

Well, regardless, welcome aboard.

Does anyone here feel like explaining to Comrade the major differences between normal and bastard mod games?  I didn't know the distinction going into my first game, and as game mod it isn't my place to try and explain, seeing as how I may drop hints about the game.

In a regular Mafia game, you can trust that the Mod is A) telling the truth and B) telling the whole truth (with the exception of night actions, and powers). In a bastard game, you can't. There's usually some sort of puzzle to figure out. But I haven't finished playing my first bastard, so I recommend you check out the notable games archive where they have a whole section on Bastard games

In a bastard game you don't get all the details. Your role might have more things in it than you are told about, your abilities might do more than they say, or do something different (example: a cop who isn't told that they're a paranoid cop and thus receives opposite results on inspect), as well as things such as hidden wincons and strange events happening. I don't think mods outright lie in a bastard mod, however. I might be wrong about that.

Mods can lie about certain things if roles force them to, but they are usually truthful about the general game (what to do to win, living/death states, if someone has win, etc). They usually don't reveal all of them (especially wincon), but they at least tell you a little bit.

Some of the things I've seen in bastard mod games:
Hidden mechanics/scum-known mechanics: A favorite in one-scum bastards, this includes any MAJOR mechanics kept hidden from the town (or the players as a whole).  Bellsounder, Ill Met by Moonlight, and KWN: Dakarian Edition are a few of examples of this.
Hidden Wincons: not telling players their wincon, often until some condition is met and their wincon is revealed to them, but sometimes not at all.  Smstr W/ Love used this, and probably some others.
Everybody can win: Exactly what it says on the tin, but usually not an easy process or the usual way of going about things.  Smstr W/ Love also used this.
Obfuscated Roles: Parts of your role remain unknown until you discover them, or possibly even for the entire game.  Smstr W/ Love used this one too.

I think you're getting the theme here.  Also the name of the only bastard mod I've ever finished playing.

I can go in the last space if that's ok. Might as well go in at the deep end.

and that makes everyone.

Hmm...

I'm going to take a poll: start now, start now and stall the end of day until after Christmas, or start on the 26th?

I don't have a preference on the matter, except that I have finals a few weeks into January and would like to have the game well under way by then (which is why I'm not proposing the 2nd as a start time).
