I'm using a Quad-Core i7 Mac Pro, Xcode does a good job of distributing compilation jobs between Core's so I guess at least the coding part will be sped up.

I know nothing about Xcode. Does it have some sort of "remote-rendering-or-whatewer" thingy? So somebody could run a compile server, to speed up your builds?

Uh, wait.  How do virtual machines increase your memory?  Is this *virtual memory*, as in hard drive space used as if it were RAM?  Because that's just swapping, which is slow (maybe less slow thanks to SSDs, nowadays).
Someone asked "how do you even use up 100gigs." VM's is the answer. RAM is real. These days 384gb isn't much, at least for servers.

The general public still hasn't really found us, the major games outlets seem to distrust kickstarters nowadays, maybe because a lot of them never delivered their game. The one thing we are not lacking is professionality, since I did much bigger (but more boring) software projects for companies like Viacom in the past. But they don't know that..

Very much this. I've adopted a principle whereby I don't back any projects that don't show me very explicitly that they have the technical know-how to develop a game. The world is full of good intentions, but that's often not enough. It's worth making that super explicit in the KS at all times!

Getting covered by RPS would be great!

If you guys&gals are bored, I won't stop you from also writing the big news reporters who wrote about DF or similar games in the past, that's what we tried, but maybe we can convince them with numbers  :D.
(Rock Paper Shotgun, IGN, gamespot...)
I sent an email to Rock Paper Shotgun asking them to look into your game. I'm sure it will be promptly read, filed away, and set on fire, but you never know. Maybe someone will read it and go, "Yaaaaay".

We got featured by the german gaming MTV show : http://www.gameone.de/news/2014/11/unterstuetzt-das-indie-projekt-formicarium

(I coded their iPhone App though, so it was rather easy to get them too)

PS: I can honestly say, of all my mail checking these days I look most forward to the bay12forums, because you all really get me and make me feel what I do 16h/day is appreciated :)

Today we made a schematic to explain the genetics model in the game (based on the What-If Book by Randall Munroe from xkcd).
There are far more attributes that govern a creatures life, but for brevities sake I use only 3 in the diagramm:

Yes, that too, but only sometimes. It would have made the above diagram more complicated that's why I left it out.

Why always use the higher attribute number for the offspring of ants?
