OOC/Applications Thread

You awaken in the back of the truck to the driver shaking you awake.  As you jump out onto the the half-dirt, half-paved road, you see you're parked along the side of the road in the active section of the town.  The streets are fairly clear, most of the vehicles being ruined husks, in one case, home to a small family of cats.  Outside of a card shop that appears to be based within an apartment block, a couple of teenagers are chatting, one of which has a duel disk of a close to standard model.  Outside of the general goods store based inside an old gas station, a young child is playing with a leashed dog of mixed breed.  From a side street, a group that of scavengers comes from the direction of what appears to be the uninhabitted portions of town carrying various pieces of scrap metal and a couple old swords hanging from their belts, two of which having what appears to be some old rifles, though their state suggests that they were salvaged.

When you return your attention to the farmer who drove you into town, he says,
"Welcome to Independence, home of the Kansas City salvagers.  I'm sorry I can't take you much further, but I need to get back to the farm.  My family's probably worrying about me."

Ken hops out of the back of the truck, stretching a bit. He'd fallen asleep in a funny position, and his right shoulder was a bit sore, but he cheered right up when he saw the card shop. His deck COULD use a bit of strengthening... He nodded to the driver, a wide grin on his face. "Hey man, I just appreciate the ride! Tell your family I really appreciate them lending you to us, yeah?" He chuckled, and made straight for the shop, heading inside as soon as he could! He'd noticed the weapons on the hips of the salvagers, as well as the kid's duel disk... Was this kid in charge of the town? A bit young, huh... He'd worry about that later. For now, the cards were singing a sweet song for him, and Grandsoil and Gaia were both itching for some new company...

Meriel nodded curtly to the driver, the only sign of thanks she gave, and hopped off the back of the truck.  Glancing around the town, she noted just how well the place seemed to have been cleaned up.  With an organized group of scavengers already here as well, there would likely be little need for the services of someone like her around here, nor would she be likely to find much in the nearby cities.  Still, after the unfortunate near-disaster in Jefferson City, it'd be a chance to recover a bit.  She sighed slightly as she looked west towards Kansas City, then glanced over at the others.  Running solo had been part of the reason for her narrow escape in Jefferson City as well; it might be worth sticking with this group a bit longer.

Bert lowered himself down from the back of the truck, setting himself carefully on the ground before glancing around. Adjusting his strange clockwork hat and his Duel Disk, he decided to head for the teens standing in front of the card shop - they looked old enough to know something about the town, and unoccupied enough that he wasn't worried about interrupting them. He did need to check to see if the shop had any Mirror Forces, but that could wait a moment...

"Ho there, strangers! Mind telling an old man where there is in town to get a soft bed for this back of mine and a few scraps of food to fill my stomach?"

He wasn't as old as he looked, but that didn't mean he couldn't play it up. After all, it wasn't like anyone else could tell.

Athena hopped off the back of the truck landing smoothly on the ground beneath, she let out a small yawn and quickly said
"Thank you" to the driver. A small smile settled on her face as she looked out across the town, taking quick note of the various people that were walking around the place. Her gaze eventually settled on the card shop, her hand absent-mindedly reaching up to touch her duel disk as she did so. She could always use some new cards, hopefully their prices wouldn't be too extravagant. She gave one last wave towards the driver and seeing as most of the members of the group were already heading towards the shop she began to walk slowly towards it.

"Thanks for the lift." Jason remarks to the farmer as he hops out of the truck bed. Glancing around, his gaze falls on the card shop and he notices the others going for it.  Maybe he can head there later, but right now all he can think about is finding something to eat. He continues looking around until he spots the general store and heads towards it, looking to get some food.

Ken Kintra, Meriel Taylor, Athena Baskerville
You bypass the teenagers and enter the card shop.  You see a roped off staircase in poor condition as you enter the building that appears to have once gone to higher floors.  There's an open archway on the right that you head through which brings you into the game shop proper.  It is well kept, though it is evident that it is a lower budget complex, utilizing repaired card tables as well as ones constructed from scrap.  On them are boxes sorted by attribute type and whether it has an effect or not.  They seem to be the common or short print cards, with the cards with higher rarities held in portfolios upon the counter at the back constructed from old desks.

A few people are looking through the boxes, with a couple standing off to the side debating some card combinations.  A rather large man is leaning on one wall, likely hired to keep an eye out to make sure no one steals any of the cards.  A older woman was behind the counter looking through some cards, either newly come in, being in a recheck of inventory, or her own personal cards.

Bert Tobler
You walk up to the teenagers in front of the card shop and ask them your question.  While mildly annoyed at the interruption in conversation, they do answer your question.  You're told of a few people who could give you a room for a night, as well as of a restaurant that recently reopened at a new location, having their old location been recently destroyed by an attack by an AI attack earlier in the month.

Jason Thompson
You head over to the general store and enter it, having given the dog a fair berth.  It's a fairly rundown locale, though the old shelving is still is moderately good condition, though playing host to either sacks of grain or cans of the other types of food.  There's a notice that in order to get anything cooled you need to speak with the cashier, in this case a man in his late thirties, whom you believe owns the business.  Besides him and yourself, there's a woman roughly in her mid to late twenties looking through the food in one of the aisles, with a customized duel disk around her arm seemingly having been custom built from scrap and some parts from one of the AI's mechanical soldiers.

Ken grins and begins politely looking through the common effect monsters first, moving through regular and then rares in turn,  looking for strong Rock Types to add to his deck.

Bert flashes a smile and tips his hat to the kids, before strolling into the card shop. He makes a beeline for the rarer cards - unless they had a lower-than-normal-rarity printing of something he was after, which he'd check in a minute, he already has all the commons he'd want. Puttering about the portfolios, he looks carefully for any copies of Mystical Space Typhoon, Mirror Force, Gladiator Beast's War Chariot, or at least a Gladiator Beast's Battle Manica - there were still a few cards he needed to fill his deck out. Of course, more Heraklinos and Gyzarus would be wonderful, too, but since he could recycle those they were a bit lower priority...

Athena moved directly to the rarer cards, studying them carefully as she moved back and forth. She was looking for Mystical Space typhoon, Calvary with the Spirit Beast, Torrential Tribute and any more copies of the fusion she currently possessed.

Meriel, for her part, moves to the rare cards as well.  In addition to ritual support, she's also curious what sort of traps are available.

Jason moves over towards the woman with the duel disk after noticing there wasn't really any snack food in the store. "Excuse me, ma'am. Sorry to interrupt your shopping, but are you one of the town duelists?" He asks her.

"So.... Athena, right?" He begins to speak to one of the people he'd found himself travelling with as he puts a few cards back, weighing his decision. "You uh... got a story? I mean, we're gonna be working together, so we should get to know each other, right? That's how this goes?" He looks to her, a little uncertain about all this.

Athena glanced towards the young man as he approached her, a small smile formed on her face as he spoke.
"I think it goes something like that. I assume by story you mean why I actually decided to go on this little adventure in the first place?"

He nodded, returning her smile. Thank SLIFER he was worried this would be harder... "Yeah... If you don't mind telling, that is. Why leave your hometown?"
