Back again, Trees and Cave ins
« on: November 20, 2014, 12:10:37 pm »

After quite some time of absence from DF I'm back again and started playing yesterday.

After a few world gens and crashes I finally found an embark with a river and vulcano next to each other and got started.

Assuming it would happen, I chopped down some trees right above my entrance floor, and it caved in.

Do I have to cut down trees first, dig afterwords and keep trees away every year?
I dont want to sacrifice an axe every year on the surface to avoid a second entrance through my farms.
Streets right through nature seem silly as well... What can I do to stop trees growing right on my depot / entrance hallway?

Floors are fragile. It's safer to leave a solid layer between the surface and stuff you are doing underground. Especially if rivers are involved.

If you want to keep an area free of trees you can keep making dirt roads, keep chopping them down, or just give in and pave it over.
