"You can come, if you want."

---FEW HOURS LATER---

"I'm glad you did come along. Didn't know that one can make fire with a light beam." The fire cracked around the crew, Ethan, mercenaries, and the volunteer.

"It's a pity we had to stop and camp for the night, but the city is few hours away and I don't want you to break your necks in the darkness."

[Sirus]

: "Thank you, but it was nothing. Really." The nun fidgeted under her robes, unused to being outdoors but finding it oddly pleasant just the same. Having a whole slew of unfamiliar faces around her was definitely unnerving, and she found it difficult to make eye contact with any of them.

Lucrezia frowned as she popped her armoured boots off. She wiggled her toes as she poured a small mountain of sand out of the boots.

It was surprisingly cold in the desert at night. She moved slightly closer to the fire. Still, it was nice.

"..."

She could tell the priestess was nervous and could certainly sympathise with that to an extent. A=She screwed up her courage. Why was this more nerve-inducing that fighting?

"H-hello. I-I'm Lucrezia. W-what did you say your name was?"

[Sirus]

The nun was puzzled. Was it the hand puppet speaking, or the girl? She decided that it probably didn't matter very much.

: "It's Amberly. I'm very happy to meet you, Lucrezia."

[GiglameshDespair]

Lucrezia paused. Her well of conversation had run dry.
She really wasn't good at talking to people. So she asked the first thing she could think of.

"W-why did you become a priestess?"

[Sirus]

Amberly turned away from the puppet/girl, unwilling to let her anger show.

: "My father forced me. He didn't want me getting in the way and so sent me to the temple. He probably figured I'd be there my entire life."

[GiglameshDespair]

"Oh."

Lucrezia paused again for a minute.

"F-for what it's worth I-I know how it feels t-to have to be something you don't want."

[Ochita]

Elanore stiffened when she heard that the priestess from the monestary was forced into it. That... Changed a lot..
: "Your parents too..? I'm sorry to hear that, I know how it feels."

Alicia shivered, her hairs standing on end.

This place was just too damn cold. How the hell does a desert get this cold anyways? It's a desert. It's supposed to hot. Why didn't I pack more clothes? She normally wasn't exactly envious of those large robes, but Alicia suddenly understood why they wore them. For as a thick as they are they certainly at least manage to keep the cold out. Finally, why didn't Ethan just stop at the inn? Granted, she should have expected it to happen. There was no way in hell that Ethan was paying for a room for all of them. The cheapskate.

Ah well. It couldn't be helped now. She took a sip from the nice pretty glass that she had relieved from the House of Scholars. It had a bit of agave juice left in the glass.  Alicia had stopped to take them up on that favor as they passed the village and filled the glass up full. She had slipped in just a tiny dab of vulnerary to give the drink that extra lemony kick as well. Drugs be damned, it was delicious.

If it just weren't so frigid, it'd be a perfect evening.

[Sirus]

: "Oh dear, the two of you as well...? I'm so sorry to hear that." Although she had only met the two a few hours ago, the nun already felt a semblance of kinship with the two women over a common bond. She wondered what their stories were, but considering their professions they were likely not the type to spill their whole stories so soon.

Sitting at the fire, Cetus glanced over at Amberly and sighed.

"You know you don't need to keep wearing all that, right? You're not in the convent anymore, you don't need to obey those rules. All those coverings will just get in your way out here. The Old Gods aren't gods, you don't need to continue to hide yourself for sake of some rules that were made up to give those in charge power."

[Tiruin]

Jesseo nudged Elanore slowly, as much as can be comfortably nudged with a heal staff.

"That's what we all share--at least as far as I told Lucrezia anyway." She pulled up to whisper a note. "She needs friends though, and that's me being really blunt. Reminds me of...myself a few months ago, anyway."

[Sirus]

Amberly responded to the priest with a slight huffiness that would never have been permitted at the convent.
: "Yes, of course I know that. I am no fool." She reached up to lower her hood, but a sudden irrational fear took her. So few people had seen her face in so many years, and those few were good friends. What if she were considered horrifically ugly by these people's standards? That was unlikely. But a decade of habits (she smiled a bit at the unintended joke) died hard. She left her face coverings intact.

: "Anyway, you are a follower of Undine? The Old Gods might not have been deities in the traditional sense, but at least they had immortal abilities and were not of this world. Undine was unmistakably human, and humans most certainly cannot be gods. You have no room to judge on that score."

Cetus shook his head.

"Being a follower of Undine isn't necessarily about if she was divine or not. It's about who she was and what she did and how we should aspire to be like her. She may have been the avatar of a god, or a god herself, or even just merely human. But what matters is that she did not let who she was expected to be limit her. She showed us a way to freedom, and that is what I preach."

Alicia snorted at Cetus' comment. Here we go. It was time for dinner... And a show!

: "Then it's her freedom to wear the habit. She's better dressed than most of us here right now. You don't even feel the cold under all those layers, do ya Amberly?"
