Amberly, who had been suppressing laughter at the image of a bunch of old men sitting around with long beards, let out an involuntary gasp at the priest's words and then quickly looked away.

"Ah, I... Ugh, this is why I shouldn't have come in here... Miss, I'm sorry. I just... I used to be a member of this religious order. I was even studying to be a priest. But... The more I learned, the more I realized I didn't really believe what I was being taught. So I left. Because of that... I haven't exactly been treated well by those I used to know. So I left home and joined this crew instead."

The water was brought by an acolyte boy younger than Amberly. He didn't even say a word, just handed out bone cups of water out of his large tray, and scurried away.

"...Few minutes longer and I'm really gonna think that old woman wants to con us." Ethan grumbled, drinking his water.

That struck a bit of a chord with the nun. She could understand having one's faith tested by mistreatment well enough. After a moment, she turned back and gave the priest what she hoped was a conciliatory nod and a pat on the arm. Once the other acolyte was out of the room, Amberly decided to take a risk.

: "I'm sure the Revered Abbess will need more than a few minutes to locate information on your artifact, sir." She spoke in a low voice, barely above a whisper.

Amberly desperately made shushing motions and cast a fearful eye at the door to the dining room. When more monks or nuns failed to appear, she spoke again, urgently despite being lower in volume than before.

: "It is not a sin! We acolytes may be forbidden to speak here, but nowhere in the holy texts does it say that to speak is a sin! It is a foolish rule of the convent and nothing more."

"Alicia, I see what you're doing. Leave her alone." Aiesha smiled warmly at Amberly. "Don't mind her, she hasn't gotten a chance to pickle her liver in a while, that's all. You don't have to say anything if you'd get in trouble for it."

"Foolish rules like that are part of why I left. It seemed to me the priests were more concerned with the pageantry of the religion than the actual beliefs. They make rules that have little to no purpose, other than forcing order and giving themselves power."

Amberly nodded.

: "Staying quiet would probably be best for now...please, tell me about why you people have come here. What is going on outside?"

"Our crew... found this orb. It's some sort of magical item, but I couldn't tell exactly what it did. Neither could the mage our captain knows, though he suggested we bring it here. We need to figure out what's up with it before we decide what to do with it. Beyond that... The normal I suppose. The nations quarrel, but there's no outright war. Life goes on."

Alicia gave Aiesha a snide glare. It wasn't like that at all, and Alicia didn't appreciate being painted as such. She was just having a little fun with the nun. Sort of like how Aiesha was having a sandbox date while everyone else was fighting. She propped her feet up on top of the table and crossed her arms.

: "You relax Aiesha. I ain' doing nothing but having a bit of fun at her expense. No booze is wearing on me so I gotta get my kicks in somehow."

: "At any rate, your "dirty" lil secret is safe with me sister. Like Cetus said, we've got that orb thing. But other than that, yeah. Not much is going on outside. There were some bandits stirring up trouble, but we stuck swords, spears, arrows, and axes in their bellies and now they are dead. You may want to ask the abbess about cleaning them up actually. They'll get to stinking out there in the sun in no time flat."

The abbess was back and she looked as if she wanted to either murder someone or just witnessed a murder. Or even both at once. She pushed Alicia and Cetus aside on her way to Ethan.

"Child! Where did you find this orb?"

"Oh? I something wrong? I don't want to lose such precious-"

"Don't play games with me! Answer the f*cking question!" Ethan was baffled for a moment at the sudden change of Abbess' demeanor and couldn't process words.
