Amberly frowned thoughtfully at Fer's question.

: "I don't know of a way, but the Revered Abbess or some of the senior sisters might. It wouldn't be anything obvious, otherwise it would be rather useless as a defense."

:"Exploring possibilities. Whatever's going on is dangerous enough to have them holed up in there, then. I would highly suggest being on guard. It's either that or only some of them are in there."

[Swordstar]

"You talked with the abbess before we left, right Amberly? That wasn't that long ago. It would have taken time for the villagers to completely disappear like that..."

[Sirus]

: "I only heard her voice, but it certainly sounded like her. And that was only a few days ago, so...I don't know. I can't think of anything that would cause them to lock up like this, unless they did it to keep those bandits away."

[Haspen]

SUDDENLY FROM AROUND THE CORNER

"Boo!"

"Eeep!"
Lucrezia jumped and dropped her spear with a loud clatter.

[Haspen]

"Well aren't you a scaredy cat, girlie!"

Beryn stepped in front of Lucrezia protectively, though he didn't raise his weapon.

Beryn stepped back a little so he could put his arm around Lucrezia's shoulders.

"Yeah, you got no call to be lunging out at people like that. What if I were a little more jumpy, huh?"

"Though, this place is kinda creepy. Where is everyone?"

[Haspen]

"Don't you deny an old woman her entertainment in once in a while!" The Abbess gave a little raspy laugh.

"The acolytes and sisters are busy with midday prayer, of course! Did Amberly already forget the daily schedules? Terrible child, her. Head full of nothing useful but thirst for adventure and escapades. Anyways."

"How was he, hmm? Ten feet tall? Master of magics? Cold, mechanical eyes??"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"You mean DeMurray? Aw, he ain't like that at all. He looked like just a normal guy in some weird clothes - well, kinda like the ghost of a normal guy, all blue and kinda transparent and stuff. Had long hair, but he kept it in a ponytail."

[Sirus]

Amberly felt as though she had jumped at least five feet in the air when the older woman had popped out.

: "Revered Abbess! I am glad to see you're okay...but why was the barrier up? What happened to the people of the village?"

[Powder Miner]

:"Well, I, uh, hmm. Guess I'm just a paranoid then."

[Haspen]

"Ha! Then he does not only sound but also looks like a school youth." The sassy old woman chuckled.

"As for the barrier, we heard that the boss of the desert bandits was looking for answers. That meant he was angry, so the remaining villagers packed up and left for Qi, we in meanwhile kept the barrier up all time. The sand would cover up the village in few years anyways, so at least they cleaned up their old houses nicely."

"...We did get some furniture outta there, you would be surprised how many fashionable chairs they left behind!
