Jesseo gave a contented sigh as she remembered the scene of Luc and Bery flying away, contrasting it to the current one.

"Even if I can't see it, it does me good to see Lucrezia look happy. Sincerely happy. That said, I believe this was something forseen. Amberly, the Monastery has a usually high overview of everything--do you think the people saw something and warned the rest? Anyone find tracks? I can ride up there and make a quick check."

Lucrezia hugged him for a while longer before wiping her eyes.

"We will find out soon, I guess. Let's continue." And whilst Beryn and his waifu were still fighting against the laws of physics, the group, led by Ethan and Amberly, arrived at the House of Scholars; facing it's defensive magical barrier at the doorway.

"Do you have, like, a magic word or somethin' for this?"

"I prefer having you all to myself, but I guess we oughtta. They're probably getting antsy."

Beryn guided Prata down into a slow glide that brought them near the party, then dismounted and helped Lucrezia down.

"Go on and get yourself something to eat, boy. We'll be back soon."

Prata chirped and took off.

: "No, nothing as complex as that. You simply ring the bell, and those inside decide whether to let you in or not. Like so." The nun pulled on a cord attached to a small bell near the front gate, ringing it.

: "It's strange though, the security barrier is usually deactivated during the day..."

The barrier fizzled out, but no one was coming to greet the group...

Beryn, having never been here before, didn't think of this as unusual.

"So are we standing around all day or what? I mean they're letting us in."

He took a moment to roll his shoulders and get some of the stiffness out of them, then hooked his thumbs in the waist of his kilt and strolled on in.

Fer marched forward with the rest, but was silent: the utter absence so far had seemed thoroughly wrong to him. He may have been a city boy, but he had been to enough villages to know that a complete evacuation pretty much had to mean that something more than mundane was up; even bandits wouldn't chase some stubborn folks out. He was silent because he didn't particularly want to worry Amberly (the area was her home), but he wasn't skilled enough to keep his deep frown off of his face.

Amberly walked ahead of the group, frowning slightly. Where was the doorman? Or the abbess? The place was a little too quiet, even for a building where many had taken vows of silence.

: "Hello? Where is everyone?"

Fer sidled up to Ethan and muttered something quietly to him.
:"The village... something wasn't right. Bandits wouldn't empty a village that completely or methodically. People are stubborn, they'd stay. It looks like everyone left preparedly, and it doesn't look like there were holdouts. There's something more at work.""

Aiesha, who was sticking close to her captain, nodded. The thief kept her voice low. "I'm with Fer. Something stinks here. Not talking about the incense either."

Seeing Prata forage for food in the arid environment, Jesseo approached Beryn, casting Luc a happy glance.
"I'd agree with everyone else, but the disappearance of the people here feels more along my assumption. I'm thinking that the Abbess and whomever else here had received a warning, and then told the villagers. They packed up, took their time, and got out--there were no evident signs of fighting in anyway in the village or in this area. But to be sure, Beryn--did you see any kind of tracks or trails while up in the Sky with Luc?"

She addressed the same idea of tracks to Captain Ethan, however suggested that all of them go search the monastery instead, probably leaving Prata or someone out here who could keep watch and give an easy signal (or run down the stairs) for notification.

:"Whatever it was, it wasn't mundane. There were bandits here when we first visited and Amberly came along, and people weren't evacuated then. ...wait a second. The barrier was up when we got here, anyway, and that would be ample protection, so for the people here to le-- wait... ...Amberly, is it possible to turn that barrier on from the outside?"

"I-I didn't s-see anything either when w-we were up in the air, J-Jo."

At Fer's question, Luc interjected.
