Fer chuckled at that.
:""Yeah, we'll be forced to float backwards at half speed. The whole magic thing IS good for something!"
14, 14, blast the mage.

[Sirus]

: "I suppose it is good for something. And yet if we didn't have it, perhaps the Old Gods wouldn't be planning to kill all of us now."

[Powder Miner]

Fer talked while blasting fire at the opposing mage, eyes locked on his duel, if not his mouth.
:"We shouldn't let them stop us. That's something I've always held. Some of the things that were made before the Shattering... they should have been made. It was our race's right. I've--" He finished casting his spell. "--I've spent my life looking for what discoveries were lost, my family has spent generation upon generation upon countless generations, and I'd rather defend against the literal GODS than have us all stay unenlightened forever."

[Sirus]

The nun sighed.

: "Trust me Fer, I know what it's like to want to uncover the past. It's been the purpose of the House of Knowledge for generations. I just can't help but wonder where we'd be today if this power we possess had never existed."

[Powder Miner]

:"Simple serfs, probably. I apologize, but with things as they are... I don't think they'd be satisfied with us making any sort of progress."

[Sirus]

: "Perhaps you're correct. It's not like we'll ever know now, will we?" The nun shook herself lightly, as though reorganizing her thoughts.

: "Forgive my dour attitude. I've just been doing a lot of thinking the past few days and very little of it has been positive."

[Powder Miner]

:"...there's been a lot going on, yes. Still... I think we can get through all of this. We've gone through a lot already and still made it here, right?"

[Sirus]

: "True...However, what we'll be facing is entire orders of magnitude more powerful than what we've been fighting so far. We simply don't stand a chance unless something changes for the better."

[Powder Miner]

:"Something has changed, though. We have a chance to get into Demura's arsenal, and perhaps whatever other old technology lies out there, right? That counts as a chance to me."

[Sirus]

: "It is far too early to celebrate yet. As you say, you only have a chance to have a chance at stopping the Old Gods. If the arsenal is destroyed or inaccessible for some reason then we are back to square one."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Hey now. Nothing is over until it's over. Even if we don't have that arsenal or whatever, we're not going to just roll over."

[Powder Miner]

:"If. There's no sign something like that's going to happen, and I don't think it's a good idea to assume the worst will happen before we even get around to trying. It would defeat the purpose."

[Sirus]

: "I disagree. You must anticipate - even expect - failure so that you can make alternate plans ahead of time. If I've learned anything from this quest it's that unwarranted optimism rarely pays off."

[Powder Miner]

Fer really was surprisingly wordy for a man in combat.
:"But you have to allow for success. We can't give up or decide the situation is hopeless, is what I'm saying, or else we really will lose."

Being right next to Beryn, watching him shout over the sands, Jesseo thought she could add her voice over the winds of the dunes and the grumpy bandits nearby.

"Let's assume defeat when we can't do anything else. Right now, let's assume survival!"
