Many minutes of walking and smalltalking later.

"Professor DeMurray, we're back."

"That I see."

"So, did we do well?"

"Look for yourselves." A huge, lit screen appeared above Professor.



"Err, explanation please?"

"Right away! This is the map of all known locations of the hidden communications devices that Professor DeMurray and his colleagues had planted in your lands before and after the catastrophe. The greyish ones are disabled or lost and the red ones are active. Demura's Vault, Undine's Personal Comm Station, Alvadan Listening Post One, House of Scholars and Weapons Plant Four are active. Oh... there's also a distress signal on the eastern continent. And the one in Alvadan mountains is not transmitting its identification code..."

"...Tower of Xos has its radio disabled. That's strange. Is Tower of Xos still standing?" Professor DeMurray looked at Ethan.

"Don't ask me, I've never been there."

[Solymr]

: Oh me mother...

: Where we supposed to be?

[Swordstar]

Cetus looked at the screen blankly for a few seconds before quietly muttering,

"That's a lot of beacons..."

[Haspen]

"See that long island in bottom right corner, between two small dot-like islands? We're there, right in the middle!"

[Sirus]

: "There are a couple of these 'beacons' on islands to the north. Which ones are those? They would probably be closest."

[Haspen]

"Your species had just few settlements there started, once we gave you technology and knowledge to spread there. These and all their inhabitants were destroyed during The Shattering."

"And the distress beacon?"

"Hmmm..." Margaret made few bloops and beeps for a while.

"It's Hope 19's Escape Pod #4 distress beacon." Demura's projection tried to simultaneously grimace and maintain a straight face. It ended grimacing in terror.

"It has been running continuously for... five hundred fifteen years, six months and fourteen days, Professor."

"...I see." Professor spoke with rather dejected voice.

[Swordstar]

"You know something. What does that mean?"

[Haspen]

"...When I escaped Hope 19, I landed with Pod number 6, not 4."

"This means that one of Professor's colleagues escaped the ship as well, five hundred fifteen years ago, and crashed down on your planet!" DeMurray didn't look happy.

[Solymr]

: So what yer sayin' is...

: One of 'em that wanted to kill everyone is still runnin' around?

[Swordstar]

"... I see. How... how likely is it that they're still alive?"

[GiglameshDespair]

"..."
"W-wouldn't h-he have d-died of o-old age a long t-time ago? U-unless h-he became a g-ghost like y-you?"

[Haspen]

"They couldn't possibly survive. You might think we were gods, but we were as frail and mortal as you were. Just a bit healthier. I wonder who it was there..." DeMurray let out a 'sigh'.

"Anyways. Margaret, which of the stations is allowing two-way communications?"

"Alvadan Listening Post, House of Scholars and Demura's Vault, Professor. Should I establish communications with any of these?"

[Powder Miner]

:"...wow... wait. "Demura's Vault"? House of Scholars? Why are we using OUR terms for this? The House of Scholars I could maybe buy being your term for it as well, but we're the ones who call you Demura and not DeMurray. Is there some method of identification term or are you just simplifying it for us -- and in that case, how do you know?

[Haspen]

"It's easier to remember where 'House of Scholars' is rather than 'Station number whatever', don't you think?"

"I myself have in-built communications and computer processing all the data. Now that the main tower is online, I'm continuously trying to probe the other stations, download data, and so on, in hopes of finding something that can help us with any and every problem we might encounter in our preparations to confront Professor's colleagues!"

[Solymr]

: House of Scholars' where we heard the first thing aboot all this. Also where we picked up our lil' nun, mebbe she wants to call home?

Barry turned to look at Amberly.
