Go for it!  Just make sure to keep your dwarves clear of the area until she's yours.  Also be careful, first-generation trained animals sometimes revert to wild, attacking any hapless dwarves it runs into.  Might be a good idea to build a pen for her.

Hope you have a decently trained trainer. As a weak one may allow it to become wild as stated, although "should" be ok especially if all other duties are unticked.

Just FYI, if you can get any young, you can get those to become tame but not the original "generally", but getting egg layers to lay fertilised eggs requires a male on the map and some luck.

Having an army of Tame GCS's (add in some GC swallows for fun also, cave dragons if you can get em) is hilarious.

By generally i meant it's unlikely you'll ever get your original GCS tame, as it requires training GCS's in general until you're very knowledgable, and that is roughly 1000 times of training i've found, and i do a LOT of taming ;)
Much more likely to capture a male and remove the first few batches of eggs, then she can probably produce a few batches to become tame.

Dear Urist McStockpileDrone
I just found a barrel which contained a wheelbarrow. Inside the wheelbarrow was another barrel. I don't even understand how that is possible.

I had second generation sea otters revert to wild and get slaughtered by my war dogs (well I assume that is what happened) I wonder why they weren't born tame, they were born trained instead. Though the mother was pregnant before I caught her. Hmm

Well, the, uhh, SITUATION, has kinda resolved.

She spotted some of my dwarves loading the cage traps and chased them away. Problem is the dwarves kept trying to load the traps and eventually she managed to web one. Then I had a bunch of dwarves trying to recover the wounded, so I installed a door leading to the caverns so I could control the flow in and out of them. Luckily I do have some cages set up and a chair set to entice her into them, so it's a matter of waiting now.

All of the dwarves who aren't doomed have been evacuated from the caverns for now, and they're sealed off. Once the spider's killed everyone I'm going to forbid all the items down there and set up more cages if the ones I have there already don't work.

On the plus side, I decided to order my count to attack her. I'm getting tired of his obsession with ballista arrows. Sorry, bucko, looks like you aren't getting to use that tomb I built you. Bad news, the liaison is still trying to perform diplomacy with him. I just hope the spider kills my count first so the liaison can bugger off safely.

EDIT: Nope, Liaison's doomed. Shame.

Get 2 to 10 soldiers with helmets and you're more or less fine in regards to spiders. Since webbing incapacitates Dwarves cave spiders will overwhelmingly bite the head; unless they hit the eyes your Dwarf can be 90% safe whilst another Dwarf hacks the spider from its flanks.

She vanished! D:

I guess she wandered off the map. Nothing to do now but set up more cage traps and hope she reappears.

My first GCS was in adventure mode...that didn't end well. For me at least. I think one of my companions managed to get it as I lay dying. One of the cooler 20 frames of DF I can remember.

That's pretty common, you can make creatures tame by having your dwarves train them while they are in child form... though it seems it's a bit late for anyone on this thread, it should help next time...

Also, if you want to catch things, building and loading the cage traps is easier to do before the creature actually arrives...
