My initial thoughts were that it could be useful for ships or base defense, if the tech can be upscaled well (and if it can protect against things at the ship power level).

In terms of personal armor, we'll have to see what protection it grants at what price, it might turn out regular armor will be cheaper.

I like the battlesuit shield idea, if it can be done relatively cheaply.

It could at the very least provide a cheaper alternative to automanipulator shields, one that doesn't require batteries.
Or it could be used to make small forcefields that can keep the air in if the helmet is breached.
Or you could make spacesuits out of them so that everyone will walk around naked.[/joking]

Okay, so what new research avenues have already been marked, but not explored?

I see the Artifact list on the wiki page (which is very useful, thanks to whoever had the idea and put the data there); I also recall the handy list of post-Grate Hephaestus anomalies, but cannot quite find it yet.
What else?

@Heph admins Shall I wait for a proper moment of Maurice's official appointment as Admin of Science, or just handwave it for now? Is there going to be a scene for that at all?

(Also, is it me, or is the Doctor unaware of the organisational change on Hephaestus? Is Steve also unaware, for that part?
Should someone break out the news?)

Clearly running multiple missions at the same time is a terrible idea.  The epic battle to see which team can cock it up worse has escalated again.

And Larry kinda gets blueballed in all this; just left with a raging bone spear and no where to put it.

@Nik

Gratesplosion artifacts list is under stockpiles, behind a link.  Stuff that hasn't been explored isn't really well marked; We usually don't keep a long backlog of xenostuff to research, and general ideas are far too varied and numerous to try and catalog.  I have considered making a different wiki page where people can store all their various tinker ideas though.

I'd advise that you not assume the page is correct- I haven't updated it for a while.  My wifi's been semi-dead, but I'm starting to think I'll just copy the page source onto my phone and edit it on a connected laptop.

@U_P

Yeah, like us making new designs will keep you from eating them.  Even if it would, it wouldn't be a real motivation for us.  Now, if you threatened to sabotage the blops mission...

Unholy, I will be pretty clear here: Auron wouldn't survive an attempt at being funny during the black ops mission. It's not just renegade, Steve himself has been oriented on how to deal with Auron in case he tries any of his usual team-harming shenanigans.

The hell do you mean "usual"?

It was one time...

Edit:
Oh and just to be clear, no-one would survive my attempt to be funny.

Not to mention that if you were to somehow survive, after screwing up such an important mission, there's a high chance you'd end up alone, in space, with only a planet of murderfungi and an army of murderbots there to keep you company. And even if the sword was not destroyed and you did manage to return to it, Steve would not be very happy to see you after deliberately killing one of his generals. Not to mention what Milno would do. All in all, a bad idea. So please don't kill my character.

And no, you don't have any reason to use the manipulator. You've joined the mission as part of the melee experts, not as space magic user - that's for Pancaek. If you try even reaching for the manipulator then the results are pretty obvious. There's more than one set of eyes on Auron.

Really, just complete the mission. Milno's far more serious with B.Ops stuff than Simus was about Auron's "accidental" attack on her.

Seriously guys two points.

1. You are taking my joke way too seriously. Quit being so damn up-tight about everything.
2. If i really wanted to do something funny then you couldnt stop me, even with your killswitches and adult supervision.

Hey guys just so I don't trip up and mess up the Snapdragon mission, PW did say in IRC that Haebi soldiers could only be constructed from specialised 'organs', right?

here's a thing: can we use that material that consumes kinetic impact to create ever-sharp blades?

A better material would be hexbug or mythril.  Either of those would do fine.  They'd still probably be worse at slashing than monorazors though, and this is ignoring the fact that melee weapons are almost obselete.

The point is, if a melee weapon is almost indestructable, maybe a battlesuit can use it to penetrate the armor of another battlesuit with sheer brute force? As in, stab it real hard?
That is an emergency situation, of cource, nobody normally does that.
