so then syv, Stevebot it is? Or would you prefer a Renen type body or something? Or something else?
I'd have to say a Renen type body is a better choice. If I'm not mistaken, a Stevebot's main flaw is it's nuclear ramjets, which could dangerously irradiate allies and themselves.
Then again, I'm not really sure if a Renen type body is practical. Remember back when Renen cleared an entire building of sods? I'd think that a unit capable of that would be very expensive, and therefore impractical to put in every platoon. If it
isn't expensive, then we might want to put more than one of them in each platoon.
Though we should check how much leadership and direction a sod armchair commander needs to give his underlings. If they need constant 'babysitting' in a warzone then this might complicate things.
We definitely should check, but I doubt it'll be a big issue. Remember when Hasala commanded a sod team, and ordered them to incapacitate a UWM crewman? They did it in a exceptionally organized, cohesive manner, with one sod watching for enemies. They probably don't need to be babysat.
I've been under the impression that a commander's role would basically just be overall tactical decisions, like where to go. I remember Steve saying that a sod thinking for himself was unpredictable- they might go destroy a ship's reactor, or guard a random hallway.
And yes, i know it's more than 1 particle. But I meant that if I send a radiowave multiple people can pick it up, whereas a QEC is between two parties only. So if you wanna communicate with multiple parties, you need several QEC (who can perhaps share some hardware, but not the QEC fluid).
Honestly, I didn't really intend for different platoons to communicate between each other using QECs. I figured they'd radio to wherever the QEC is, and that would act as the center point for inter-platoon communication, much like how our current missions work. My issue was more about whether or not five platoons (and their commanders) talking through one ship would overload that ship's QEC.
And since I know you'll bring it up, for operations in places where communicating with the ship is impractical like with M15, they would need ground based comms. Even then, I think several platoons would share the same QEC.
He's really rather reasonable, if you know how to handle him. He's certainly been a great source of information for me!
As you say after this, ARESTEVE or a research crew could probably help us out enough. The Doctor, in my experience, does things because he finds them interesting. He also doesn't care about the damage, or often enough even the original intent.
Combine that with PW's oft-stated desire to have dangerous events happen on Heph, and before we know it all the sods will be hyper intelligent manipulative sociopaths who've formed a complex eight-tiered political system with more backstabbing than Menzoberranzan.
So wait, is this about on-the-field commanders, or are you referring to cloning armchair commanders?
That quote was referring to on-the-field commanders, but cloning armchair commanders isn't an altogether bad idea.
The commander isn't on the field, that +1 would be the central dude with a QEC relaying info. Where else are we gonna place that thing? Not on any of the squad leaders, right? Because I'm not sure if we can always just assume we'll have a base/ship decently enough defended so as not to need a mobile one. either way, this point is kinda moot until we decide what system to go for.
Ah, okay. This makes sense. Having a "bodyguard" for the QEC is a very good idea. Still, we should research the cost of a QEC before deciding exactly what to do.
I'll put it in my next Heph turn. Probably along with other questions from these spoiler talks.
I thought we were going to specify (to some degree) what those were after we agreed on the bigger picture. Cause I do think we could use some form of Artillery, though not a very big amount indeed. We could replace the term with 'mechanized warfare' perhaps? Or do you really want singular categories?
I agree, artillery is a good idea, but it is the most redundant thing I can think of. After all, if we don't have orbital superiority, the battle is likely a lost cause anyway, and even a small warship can lay down some massive firepower. If we do end up creating ships that carry one company of 250 sods each, we can arm the troopships with a small amount of firepower that is intended for use as the infantry's artillery.
I'm very adamant that I want singular categories. Again, I dislike the idea that a dedicated unit could get destroyed, and our two options are putting a special note, or outright abstracting it away. Not only does it bug me, it seems like it would make a tactical game where we control the combat, more unlikely.
If you are also adamant on this, we could try making our armor something like StarCraft siege tanks, where they can be used as both arty AND armor. I don't think it's a terribly
realistic idea, but it's an idea.
For example, yes. But also, say, units that can repair or replace robobody parts and vehicles and such. Though perhaps these last ones can be abstracted.
...Do we even need specific units like this? I'd think that sods are more than capable of repair, considering the fact that they're apparently effective medics.
i know you hate 'nonspecific lumping', but it does serve as a nice barrier should we forget something and pw or somebody else points it out, we can just add it to this category. Or say we want to be able to say that each company has a bunch of nukes or nerve gas bombs, these are all just grouped here without much hassle.
...So basically, you mean it's the Ass Pull Platoon? My munchkin side loves the idea. My fair gamer side hates it. As a whole, I like that name.
It evens out to "I support this idea, as long as everyone agrees to call it the Ass Pull Platoon."
((Logical argument against: Does this mean that if we use a bunch of MK.III troopers in a battle, and they get killed, we'll have no bombs of any form? Does this work like an advanced hit, where if the supplies/troops can only be used/killed three times, regardless of what they are, and then none of them can be used?))
