I don't know what I want. I don't know where I would really be more useful. And I do not know when a mission I could be useful and have fun like this one will come up... On the other hand I know I'm going to have fun on Hephaestus and I want to do those things I want to do over there. Gah, why did this mission have to come up now, why couldn't this mission be the previous mission? I feel like any choice I make is going to be the wrong one. I dunno, anybody have any suggestions about where I could help the most? Or should I just flip a coin?

Don't really have a suggestion. I agonized a bit over the same kind of thing when PW offered me my job as Hephaestus lead administrator (which I've dissolved, though I could probably claim seniority if I felt like it (I don't)). Though he won me over with the power to define the Armory.

That does remind me, who has Gilgemesh now? A BS is useless on heph(and you can make yourself another one anyways)

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

I second the proposition that sorting out by yourself is best, but in terms of practical advice/knowledge, I can give this:

The more I learn about this new Heabi mission, the more I think that the lighter you go in, the less problematic it would be. And at the rate where they'd desperately need a battlesuit with a cannon that powerful is where people are already fucked up or running like mad to the evac shuttles.

@tryrar Actually, it's Gilgamesh (well - the integrated Rainbow Cannon) that was originally to be sent for research on Hephaestus (by Flint's own suggestion, it bears mentioning), and then Flint was invited too.

Or you go to Hep after this mission, that way getting your cake and eating it to.

By the way, what is the 'prototyping' status of fleshknitter? It can really use that cost reduction, but I am torn on whether it should be considered past prototype stage or not; it still has not been field-tested (which Piecewise keeps reminding us is vital unless we're fine with life-costing imperfections in design) , but it's general use extent is given and it's already been planned to be incorporated into equipment.

I'm... not sure. Has it been used in the field yet?

No, because I'm currently holding the only can of the stuff I've synthesised and it has not merited its use yet (given it's rarity and initial high price). Well, if we're shipping several MCP-IIs, maybe one or two could come in with the fleshknitter tank options I designed as well? Since those are refillable, they are in a much better position to be tested in field - and field-testing the upgrades alongside the equipment those were designed for fits the general idea of prototyping as well. Especially if all prototypes go to the Armory stock afterwards anyway.

Simus, I don't mean to question your judgement, but I think it would be a good idea to manufacture a few copies of his device for basic testing on Hephaestus.  There isn't much data on how effective it really is, so we don't have sufficient information to fairly say that the device shouldn't be prototyped.

Besides, I've long thought that we should try making some cheaper alternative to a gauss cannon.  We both know that that horrible example of engineering is a pointless waste of resources, so we should really make an effort to replace it.  Hargraves has potentially done a lot of the work for us here, so it would be a shame if we dropped the design now only to come up with something similar later.

Quote from: Anton Chernozorov, text message to Steve Saint, CC'd to Heph Admins
Easy solution for ammo size and max range. Hybrid rocket/gauss. We've already got the Sibilus. Scale the HGC down to the launch tube, so you can have the rockets carry less fuel and be accelerated faster. Weapon won't be near as expensive as the HGC, ammo will be cheaper than the proposed design and easier to carry. Can use Hammerheads instead of nuclear-tipped warheads. Lots of options.

(funnily enough, Dumbo pointed out in chat that since I ditched the Javelin concept and went with a stinger concept, no technical reason I couldn't have put at least some low power Gauss coils for an initial boost. Only reason I didn't is because I didn't want to do a complete redesign again after getting a cost estimate from the council)

Well, if no one objects, I am adding the fleshknitter tank upgrade to the prototyped MCP-IIs marked for shipment. Ought to test things out, right?

Well, I wasn't asking for one anyway, so I can't complain, I suppose. Don't make that stuff come standard, though, I don't have the Aux to take it out myself.

Question, is this flesh knitter stuff applied automatically? Or is it manual?

@swordsmith Nah, it won't be standard because it makes MCP-II more expensive than it can be.

@Dumbo Well, it should be applied automatically, I believe. Just as other medication in the suit medical system.

Also, why the fear? It has only so much stuff in there (quite less than a full can, I presume from token price), so it should not do anything wrong. Plus it is calibrated to apply it in small doses where needed, so even then the potential damage is reduced. And then again we probably already have space cancer from stasis pods we use all the time.
I mean, compared to all other eldritch, xenos or plain synthetic stuff that can make your body funny and no longer human, it is very meek. It was designed to be absolutely non-invasive in terms of preserving humanity. Or am I underestimating the scariness potential of this invention?

Nah, it's fine, I was just confused about it, I mean, I don't want (my character) to be impaled with something and have the suit go 'oh shit, better cover that up!' so I(He) has a flesh spear sticking out of me(My character).
