SURPRISE SUNDAY UPDATE (because I thought last friday was actually a saturday whoops)

Quote from: Sergarr
Pray to Hestur by saying his (her?) name thrice, then equip Eternal Shame.

You pray to Hestur. As usual, he doesn't answer.

You cannot equip eternal shame because eternal shame is an abstract concept that you've (abstractly) compartmentalized into (an abstract representation of) your inventory!

But now you're reminded of it. You throw it away. Abstractly. Heart is an awesome power.

Quote from: Graknorke
>Go to the nearest tavern/temple/busyplace and talk to people, get a feel for the local problems, if there's any travelling soldiers to recruit, things like that.

You're already in the tavern! That's where well-traveled people tend to hang out. As for recruitment and local problems...

Quote from: cyberTripping
> Esxac is too weak to join you... So maybe you should find someone nearby who is strong enough. The "near" death experiences you've had might mean you need the extra firepower.

You're used to what you now know as heart powers. There's a lot of perfectly eligible soldiers now, but you want to make sure they're going to get along with the group. You don't want to break anyone's heart! Well, unintentionally.

Your band is still too large! That's a disappointment.

You get some better armor and weapons for your companions and ask the local mayor about troubles. He seems impressed at you, which is nice. You ask about beasts, he tells you about a bronze colossus.  That doesn't sound like a bad idea. It's big, but it's only one creature, and your sword can cut bronze like a hot knife through grub sauce.

Apparently the largest town of the region, Masterbook, has been taken over by bandits. Wow, that really needs to be taken care of. Maybe you could get an insurrection force going.

There's a bandit camp immediately to the east. Oooh. Harlin says that you could use that to test the extent of your powers. Unfortunately, the local bandits are notoriously friendly while in camp and killing them will be seen as the act of one who is unhinged.

What do you do?

Just how friendly are the bandits? I mean, using psychic powers nobody knows about isn't too outwardly aggressive, and I doubt they'd notice.

The main problem is what the game does and does not recognize. It recognizes that killing poor, sweet, innocent, precious murdering highwaymen in their hidey-holes is aggressive, unhinged behavior.

Then again, I've been summarily ignoring the game for pretty much everything involving actual dialogue, so I'm not sure if that matters.

Well to be fair, going to a camp and slaughtering everybody is aggressive and unhinged behaviour.
Okay other than that starting an insurrection sounds like fun. I've never actually carried one through before so this should be interesting. Also being a revolutionary is kind of mandatory for people with special powers.

EDIT: Ninjad... somehow?

Being a revolutionary is practically mandatory of the troll with brown blood.

But I'd suggest we buff our combat ability to at least legendary+5 level with swordkind and dodging, so that we can effortlessly slaughter the king's royal guards.

You ask Harlin about the emperor.

Besides that, an insurrection isn't really something you're interested in... at all. The humans have a bandit problem in their largest town, you never even considered revolution.

If it turns out that you're supposed to start an insurrection with your powers, you'd be so... well, actually, it would be about the same as if it were any other sort of weird destiny.

How about not going to fight the slayer right now, or really in the immediate future at all.

Also maybe finally we get to do some looting?

Go kill those night creatures. On the way, try to find a shitty sord to train our swordkind skills.

YES OKAY YES THAT'S GOOD

Looting. Okay. There's a bronze statue here. Wow this thing is heavy. It's called... "Abbeyabbey the Abbey Abbey Abbey-Abbery of Abbey"? You think the universe might be making fun of someone.

There's a couple boonbucks over there. Score.

You also try to pick up the Colossus' head to bring it back. Wow that thing is bigger than you. Which is to say, way too heavy.

Bronze statue, fuck yeah.

Which night creatures?

You head to the nearest tavern to rest and ask around. The mayor calls you a legend. Here we go.

Thankfully, he doesn't seem to treat you that differently. He tells you about his husband and yadda yadda all that stuff he'd say normally. This is nice. You ask about anyone well traveled and he leads you to a dersite in the back room. You guess every tavern has a back room dersite waiting for travelers? The dersite says yeah, that's about right. Name's Sinur. Pleased to meet you, there's a cyclops to the southwest, a vile hag mate just east of here, a freak bridegroom of shadow to the west, a vile troll (night creature, not you're kind) to the southwest, a  forest titan to the northwest, and a hill titan that's killed 60 far to the northwest.

Wow, uh, thanks, you say. That's quite a dump of info there. No problem, she says, just doing her duty as the well-traveled wise dersite in the back room. You ask how she feels about her duty. She says it's not perfect, but it's good enough. Why fret about it?* The Moist Tongues is a fine enough place to be.

The Moist Tongues, you ask? Yeah, Sinur says, trolls are weird.

You head into town to go to bed and sell off that awfully heavy statue. You find out that you have to go to another town to sell it off. Joy.

You got a big dump of info just now and you've got nothing to do with it. What do you do with it?

You don't even know where a tomb is! Besides, you've heard about curses. Brutal, those are.

Yeah, night creature hunting seems a good enough profession. Damn things are like vermin.

In fact, when you head into town to sell your crap, one attacks you.

It's a long, difficult fight. Damn things are slippery. Harlin gets dangerously close to bleeding to death, but she manages to heal after the night creature dies. Herido loses his right hand, and is unconscious from the pain. You try to see if you can wake him up. You can't. Harlin tries, too, and finds that she can, but he falls right back in. You try to alleviate the pain and fail. Harlin tries and finds that she can't really do that without healing him to full--which she can't do, since she just did that to herself.

He eventually gets up and follows you. You managed to sell off the statue for 6600 units. Probably way less than it's worth, but it's not like you have much use for money to begin with.

Herido tells you about a night creature hovel very nearby. You decide to go there immediately.

You think you know where your friends' near-death experience came from.

Unfortunately, nothing was there but an unfortunate bandit, whom Herido noticed and quickly took care of.

You are standing in the fortress of Masterbook. There's a lot of adventure to be had here, with dark fortresses to the west, huge amounts of night creature nearby, and no less than 35 groups claiming the place for themselves.

What do you do?

(you totally missed the opportunity to put "singlehanded" into Herido's party entry)

See if we can't buy some equipment with that money, armour could do with being padded out.
And it's underlings that live in dark fortresses right? If so that might be a good way to go to get geared up via grist, since as it turns out animalistic monsters don't have much in the way of property.
