Currently have a rather annoying issue whit a Rook in my fortress, my dwarves are not attacking it, or even doing anything back against it, It is spending quite a bit of time unconscious because it have worn it self out.
Note, my war dogs DID attack it, but, well did not exactly do much other than annoy it.. ;)

Calling them off then station them near do not help, giving kill order do not help, says something along the line of can not reach target.

*edit* Forgot, they attacked and defended quite nicely agains multiple goblins 4 times before no problems.

Version 0.40.16 OS: Windows 7 Pro Norwegian,

Anny advice? Id hate to have the fortress die to some bug like this, and would like to kill it propperly and not whit df-hack or something..

*edit 2* forgot to add link to the bug, http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=8250 it seems this is what I got..

You might try to build some traps around it.

Alternately collpse something onto it, drown it with water, or drown it with Magma.

Pretty much no direct military way I've ever found to deal with one of these bugged critters.

If you have DFHack installed, it might just be better to kill the thing outright by togglign the "alive" field.

Ill try the traps, not easy when its in my courtyard, second, makes colapse and drowning hard,
just hope DF-Hack releases soon then... (tried a while whit just adding my remaining 14 dogs, that did nothing..

I neglected the obvious.

Build a ballista with the critter downfield and set up some conscripts to "train" with it.  Ballista bolts are very good about not caring what they kill.  Of course, if it's layign down unconscious all the time, they might have trouble hitting it.  In that case, run the thing over with a few minecarts.

if they have problems hitting it that's sort of a bonus because they'll get more practice.

While building the ballista parts, it attacked a farmer that actually responded and brained the rook whit 1 hit. I should upgrade that guys room whit engravings and a coffer and a cabinet, plus a toomb or something.

What the hell is a Rook? Is it a megabeast or some kind of animal? Did you mod it in?

A Rook is a subspecies of Roc known for only moving in straight lines, and from time to time swapping places with royalty.

Or just me for some reason constantly misspelling Roc, why I do not know.. and sigh was not the dwarf whit 1 punch in the reports, it was a bleed out from dog bite, whit a great timing..
hmm, can I make a tomb for a dog? Well better check..

The rook is in fact a common bird, too. Although, since it's just a crow-sized corvid, it would probably count as vermin in DF.

If the dog wasn't adopted by a dwarf, you can't bury it. If it got a name out of the event, it might be possible to memorialise it via slab, if not, you'd need to make a bunch of statues and engravings and hope you get lucky.

Thread would benefit from ppl bothering to look up the thoughts of their "bugged" dwarves. (They may just have panicked.)

And sift "Ursit McFarmer was horrified after seeing a troglodyte die" x 14 every time I get curious about why my farmer is moving somewhat slow?

actually, most of the dwarves did have something along the line of Can not reach target or no valid target on a direct kill order, secondly, no blue ! over them, civilian dwarves did not really cancel jobs, also if horrified or panicked, should they not run away? and not stand still while roc attacks 20 times all missing or ripping dwarf to pices?
