I don't understand this. This is how the game was made, what drew you to it if ASCII is awful to you?

Who says we ever played with ASCII? I watched a Let's Play a long time ago and it used Ironhand. I started on Ironhand myself and switched to Phoebus later. Tilesets increase the readability and I prefer them.

Some mods simply make games better for me and I wouldn't want to play the game without them. Same goes for Kerbal Engineer Redux, Ferram Aerospace Research and RCS Build Aid in Kerbal Space Program. Some people might enjoy trial and error until they get something that will fly well but that's not me. If I want to build a stable, spaceworthy VTOL those mods help immensely and I know my spaceplane will be capable to land on Minmus and return before I hit "Launch". =P
For KSP I have a list of maybe 10 mods that I consider essential and I'll wait until those mods are updated before I download the new version of KSP.

I love modding so much because everybody can play the game how they enjoy it! Mods can make a game easier, harder or just change the experience completely. You enjoy ACII? Go ahead, have fun! But I'll keep my 16x16 pixel cats... =3

I don't care about how the game was originally made, if something can incredibly improve it, and, in the case of tilesets, make it so I don't rip my eyes out, then I'll use it. There's really no reason to stick with ,.ĀBgIhePN or whatever you see.

People in the anime community want me to watch all my anime with the twelve year old girl voice acting, and english subtitles, but I'd rather watch the version with understandable voices, real talent and emotion, and better lines.

And the same goes for the reverse; assuming that the Japanese voice work is better even though you really can't hear it if you aren't fluent in the language.

AKA stop posting your opinions as fact, especially when you're disparaging shit you don't even use. I use graphics semi-often because sometimes I wanna play Fortbent it's easier to just copy a whole preinstalled game folder than to install DF, install DFHack, install Fortbent and I only have Fortbent as a preinstalled copy.

I like ASCII graphics because it leaves more room for my imagination. Only thing I don't like about the default ASCII is that it is not square and that is easy for me to fix.


SUBS VS DUBS

I live in a country where very little content gets dubbed and I don't even notice the subtitles. Most dubs have some weird lip movements and when that happens I get the uncanny valley feeling and find it hard to concentrate on movies/anime/etc.

On ASCII vs Tilesets:
Objectively (most) tilesets are easier to understand and allow anyone to at a glance see whats going on on the screen.

Personally I knew about DF a long time before I played it, only when I learned tilesets existed did I start playing and the 4 people in real life I know that play DF 3 + me all use tilesets exclusively, 1 uses tilesets mostly and very occasionally ascii.

On Subs vs Dubs:
As someone who doesn't know japanese at all but watches a lot of anime, a GOOD dub (decent enough lip-sicking and voice acting) is far better than a sub because I find I can pay attention a lot more to the animation with my eyes that when I am watching a sub. The problem is that ~90% of dubs suck (i.e. voices completely different from lib movement and/or bad voice acting), so as a result I mostly watch subs. All it really takes is watching a few really bad dumbs to drive people onto the dub hate train (just like bad subs [such as broken english subs] can make a show unwatchable).
