Which ones? They're all fortified, except 16. I contend that even had you kept both, and we were alone I would have won eventually (through having more troops. admittedly by 1.) But realistically I would be torn apart by opportunistic nations. We both would probably.

Actually, the whole plan was originally to pile 3 divisions on your capital. Even though I'd take casualties, I'd probably win, and that would screw everything up any more.

well, forts are +2 to rolls. that means the probability of winning a battle without explosives is 6:26 (or 19%) the probability of you taking my capital at all is 50/50 (well 46/54) that's quite a gamble.
(speaking of, the probability of taking a dictatorial fortress when crossing a mountain is 1:33 (3%, or "snowball's chance in hell")

I misspoke. Borders aren't everything. But if they're manned (like in sig.1) then they stop your advance cold. Conversely if you're traveling over friendly rail, you can get there from 2 (with advanced railroads 3) tiles away (like in sig. 2)

And since you brought this up, what were you trying to defend in 10 anyway? You were very intent on moving troops there (away from your capital, where I repeatedly recommended you keep them)
(this was before I knew capital had a railroad, so it was a place from which a surprise attack could not be launched)
