I'll have to go back to Sil, i completely forgot it ever existed, thanks for the reminder, it was unfortunate i was in the middle of many other RL play when i gave a quick try to Sil so i didn't gave it enough time and forgot it after a while.

The unique part of Sil in comparison to other RL i noticed at first is that treating it like a standard RL and fighting what you see will only result in orcs and wolves overwhelming you in number without a problem and will kill you very fast.

So it's a very good idea to go stealth and unoticed, only attacking lonely creatures.

You're getting experience for seeing an enemy not only fighting them, so you can grew stronger in your abilities (there's no XP level if i remember well, you invest your XP into new abilities or improving the existing ones) without being forced to fight as much battles as you can that would very likely to kill you (as enemies can run away and call a lot of reinforcement and come back for you).

There's probably more things in it but as said i didn't spent much time into Sil, but now that i have more time and less RL running, i'll finally give a proper attention to Sil
But really so many very good RL but so little free time :D

I've been playing a lot of ADOM lately.  It's worth a look if you're into roguelikes and open world games.

I don't think it was mentioned, but how about Elona? or Elona+? Once you get a hold of the mechanics, you'll spend alot of the early game getting your pet ready for combat and grinding platinum for cross-class training, so it's kinda slow paced, if that's your thing. It's also turn based, so that's slowed down too.

Also:
Little girl + pianist + jure of healing + training gun skills = yay.

Pemmican is pretty incredibly durable. Corn and rice also lust forever without refrigeration.
Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.

http://www.magmafortress.com/p/hoplite.html Hoplite, GO! I keep distilling the word "minimalist" from your requirement on limited features.. Hoplite is pretty interesting, though.. ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.magmafortress.hoplite Chrome app page)

And then.. http://www.roguetemple.com/z/hyper/ HyperRogue, DO STUFF!

If you like assembling robots, or blasting demons, you could look into Cogmind or DoomRL..

Here's a digital remake of the HeroQuest boardgame.. http://members.quicknet.nl/lm.broers/hquest.htm Not sure if its the best version in all the lands or not, though..

http://www.sanctuaryrpg.com/ SanctuaryRPG, DO A DECENT DANCE! I haven't went too deep on this one, but it seems worthy.. Its also up on Steam Greenlight, so thumb up some Steam ascii art..

http://hotud.org/component/content/article?id=25003:helherron Helherron, BE OBSCURE AND CLASSIC! I wonder if anyone gave Helherron its own Other Games post here.. If not, it deserves one.. Solid "classic" Ultima-style gameplay. Side note, Home of the Underdogs was a great site 5+ years ago.. I downloaded virtually every game they had that seemed even vaguely worthy.. I hope they're still an amazing site, but I can't speak due to outdated info :D

Warpath ('97' or '21st Century' versions) is simple and similar to a boardgame, but not quite RPG or rogue..

.. I think I'm tapped out.. Will come back and edit if something comes to mind.. Also, all the above games are free, suppose thats worth mentioning :> Well, Cogmind is developing a shiny 'commercial' version, but the original is still free, and pretty awesome :> Alright!
